    An excellent text presenting two of the most popular therapeutic paradigms in the contemporary developmental pediatric therapies, the NDT and the SI approach. Based on a sound scientific background the authors present an eclectic and holistic approach (a combination of the above paradigms) to the treatment of cerebral palsy, autism & fragile X, down syndrome etc. Along with Lois Bly's and Jean Ayre's books a MUST READING for all those involved in developmental pediatric therapies.

    Great! This is probably the most honest book in product development where the Authors, which are absolutely very well known into the scientific Community all over the world, describe without saving tricks and tips to the reader.
    Of course it's not a good night book and require a little knowledge in the concept analysis matter, but this a part I suggest the book to all R&D people and marketers as well.
    After this book I have checked for all the other books written by the AA (a lot!!).

What would our built environment be like if sensory response, sentiment, and memory were critical design factors, the equals of structure and program?

    In Sensory Design, Joy Monice Malnar and Frank Vodvarka explore the nature of our responses to spatial constructs-from various sorts of buildings to gardens and outdoor spaces, to constructions of fantasy. To the degree that this response can be calculated, it can serve as a typology for the design of significant spaces, one that would sharply contrast with the Cartesian model that dominates architecture today.

    In developing this typology, the authors consult the environmental sciences, anthropology, psychology, and architectural theory, as well as the spatial analysis found in literary depiction. Finally, they examine the opportunities that CAVE(tm) and other immersive virtual reality technologies present in furthering a new, sensory-oriented design paradigm. The result is a new philosophy of design that both celebrates our sensuous occupation of the built environment and creates more humane design.

    Joy Monice Malnar, AIA, is assistant professor of architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Frank Vodvarka is associate professor of fine arts at Loyola University Chicago. They are coauthors of The Interior Dimension: A Theoretical Approach to Enclosed Space (1992).

    The opening salvo in what promises to be the new turf wars of design. Though limited to architecture and attendant arts, the battle royale will be enjoined in brand, package and product design -- commercial arts are now the true avant garde of design practice.

    I found Chapter 11 ("Sensory Schematics") to be the most engaging and practical, and have been using my own variation of the authors' "sensory slider" for years.

    My firm's invention of what we call NeuroDesignTM offers new and fruitful options for companies looking to capture, clarify and magnify the emotionally resonant components of their visual messaging.

    It is heartening to see, finally, serious effort being put into this arena by architects.

                Sensory evaluation is the perception science of the food industry. Sensory data can be costly to obtain and so gleaning the most information possible from the data is key. Increasingly, value is added to sensory evaluation by the use of statistics, especially to improve the quality of product development and to make the most of market research. Nonparametrics for Sensory Science is written to complement existing parametric methodology. Nonparametric methods are appropriate when facts are only available in nominal or ordinal form, and when the model assumptions necessary for parametric procedures do not hold.Author Rayner and his colleagues consider problems including the most commonly occurring and important experimental designs: the one-sample, k-sample, blocked samples, samples with factorial structure and samples with correlation structure. Innovative new techniques are outlined and complemented with real examples. Techniques described may be applied to data where the traditional, most frequently applied nonparametric tests, such as the Kruskal-Wallis, the Friedman and the Spearman tests, are applied.Those familiar with traditional nonparametric testing will be able to update their knowledge, acquiring powerful new methods. Those without prior knowledge of nonparametric testing will be able to acquire that knowledge through this book. Aimed at sensory scientists and statisticians interested in nonparametrics, the techniques of Nonparametrics for Sensory Science are of broad general interest, but are of particular interest in sensory evaluation applications.

                          This book is highly unreadable. Examples are not too bad, but the main text is way over the head of all but the most experienced statisticians or mathematicians.

                          I used this book for the Managerial Economics course at Universidad Simón Bolívar. This book is an excellent aid for students and is plenty of practical examples. Every theoric explanation is followed by one or two examples. This makes it very easy to understand the concepts and to learn how to use them in practics. The ideas are exposed in a very clear way, what makes this book easy to read even if you don't have previous knoledge of microeconomics.

                          This book provides an up to date look at the application of microeconomic concepts to real business problems. It uses an extensive number of interesting examples to illustrate the value of managerial economic principles for practicing managers. Highly recommended.

                          this book was used in several universities as a material. however, most professors do not use this book. they just use it as "hand out". i do not recommend this.
