Book Description
In the center of Copenhagen, on the sixth floor of the Royal Hotel, a single room preserves in microcosm the definitive masterwork of Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. Room 606 is the last surviving interior of
the SAS House - an unparalleled example of modern architecture and design. Best known beyond his Scan-dinavian homeland as a furniture designer, Jacobsen (1902-1971) was one of the outstanding architects of the twentieth century. Throughout his career, he created complete settings for daily life, dissolving the boundaries between architecture, interior, and indust-rial design. The SAS House represented the pinnacle of these efforts and, by the completion of the project in 1960, Jacobsen had designed every detail, including new furniture such as the now famous Egg and Swan chairs, fabrics, fixtures, and even the silverware.
This book presents a unique insight into Jacobsen's work, using the time capsule Room 606 as a lens through which to examine his entire career. The chapters are organized thematically and each consists of three sections that together look at Room 606 as a microcosm of the SAS House, reconstruct the original building, and trace the connections between Jacobsen's masterpiece and his other works, from buildings to household objects.

Room 606: The SAS House and the Work of Arne Jacobsen.......2003-12-17
The Dalai Lama was staying at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel when I was in Copenhagen, a month ago, but happily Room 606 was unoccupied and I was able to see this one surviving fragment of Arne Jacobsen's gesamtkunstwerk. Denmark's leading architect designed this hotel-terminal in 1960 as the flagship of SAS, a major patron of progressive design, when air travel was still a civilized experience for a fortunate few. Fabrics, lighting, and furniture-most famously the Egg, Swan, and Drop chairs-even the stainless steel flatware and door handles were custom designed by Jacobsen for the hotel. Everything but the one room (which rents for about $575 a night) and the spiral stair in the lobby has now been changed. Sheridan, a New York architect, employs a wealth of period photos and sketches to recreate every facet of the original and places it in the context of Jacobsen's earlier work. The result is a gem of lucid scholarship. (Michael Webb is the book reviewer for LA Architect magazine.)

A must-have!.......2000-05-06
Great combination of inspiration and information. Luscious pictures, tons of ideas, and very clear instructions. What makes this book so useful is that she really focuses on what the title says -- putting color on paper and/or fabric -- so it's extremely versatile. If you make quilts, wearable art, collage, mail art, stamped art, fabric to use in home decoration, greeting cards, anything, you'll find something in here to get your juices flowing.

Fielder.......2007-01-16
He's number one when it comes to capturing the beauty of Colorado. Awesome pics and some decent commentary.
Mountain Masterpiece !.......2004-12-26
We have some nice mountain scenery here in New Zealand but never has it been showcased in a book of such class and quality as this one from Westcliffe. I do have two other books of Colorado from Fielder, "Colorado's CDT" and "To Walk In Wilderness" and I think about 4 of the photos look familiar out of the 200 or so in this book.
This is a large, heavy and classy book. The photos are generally full page, some double page, and are crystal clear with superb colouring and lighting. A page of text introduces each mountain range featured followed by the photos with interesting captions under each one but the emphasis is on the photos. The photos make you feel like you want to be in the scene enjoying what Fielder was obviously enjoying at the time too. The book retails at $75 but I consider it a bargain at Amazon's discounted price for what you are getting.
If you are a mountain lover like I am then this book is a must have. There has been and will be very few books like this ever published - thoroughly recommended.
A New Colorado Must-Have.......2004-12-16
Over the years, Fielder has taken many a spectacular photo. In John Fielder's new book, Mountain Ranges of Colorado, all of his greatest images over 15 years form a complete and comprehensive view of the reason for Colorado's trademark beauty: the Southern Rockies. The book not only goes range by range through the entire state, but presents some of the best images Fielder has ever done. A granite-feel cover, along with the photos, guarantees that there isn't a book like this out there, and there won't be unless Fielder does a sequel.
Mountain Ranges of Colorado vs. Colorado: Moments in Time.......2004-11-02
A few years ago I wrote a review of "Colorado: 1870-2000" by John Fielder and "Colorado: Yesterday & Today" by Grant Collier. These two photographers both have new coffee table books out: Fielder published "Mountain Ranges of Colorado" and Collier published "Colorado: Moments in Time." These are two of the nicest color photography books published on Colorado in quite a while, so I thought I'd write another reviewing comparing the books of two of Colorado's best photographers. For the reasons listed below, I've concluded that Collier's new book is a little better than Fielder's.
1) Quality of photos: The photos in both of these books are very nice and really show how spectacular Colorado is. I think Collier does a better job compositionally, while Fielder's shots have a little better lighting and colors. My own complaint with Fielder's shots is that many of them have been published in previous books and calendars, so if you own any previous work by
Fielder, you may be disappointed to see the same photos published here. EDGE: Colorado: Moments in Time
2) Design & Appearance of Book: Fielder's book has a cool backdrop of granite and Collier's book has a nice backdrop of wavy sand. The interior of both books is also very well designed and the photos are nice and big. Fielder's book seems to be printed on somewhat cheaper paper, but the overall design is very comparable. EDGE: Even
3) Reputation of Photographers: John Fielder has published many books and is very well known, while Collier is a newer photographer, who is not yet as well known. EDGE: Mountain Ranges of Colorado
4) Written Text: In addition to taking the photos, both photographers wrote the text for their books. Collier is nearly as good a writer as he is a photographer. He wrote concise and very information essays on various aspects of the history of Colorado that really complemented the images in the book. Fielder text was not as well written, although it was an improvement on his previous attempts at writing. The text tends to ramble on and the writing style could use some improvement. But there is some good information in there if you look hard enough. EDGE: Colorado: Moments in Time.
Overall Vallue: Fielder's book has a retail value of $75, while Collier's book has a retail value of $45. Both books are very large. Fielder's is just a little bigger, but not much. So, even with the large discount that Amazon.com currently provides on Fielder's book, Colorado: Moments in Time is still priced lower. I therefore believe that it is, by a small margain, the best book and the best overall value.

Few and Far Between.......2007-05-12
This book is well-written and provides some helpful information, but it seems that the hikes are all relatively minor dayhikes, with only 3 or 4 highlighted near each major population center along the Front Range. I was hoping for a more thorough and complete list of hikes in my area, as well as the same for my neighboring towns.

Pueblo and Co. Sprs. Rock hounds Get This.......2003-03-06
Bob Horn has obviously gone to every one of these areas, or gathered info from other climbers and detailed them well in this book. His line drawings and sketches are better then usual and are easy to find and follow.
My only gripe is that a lot of the southern front range bouldering classics are on private property and no directions are given to several areas. I think when a climber is accessing private property, a simple stop at the owners residence will often gain you legal access to these precious gems.
From and ex-greenhorn valley dweller, enjoy!
Reveals a wealth of Information unattainable before.......2000-03-27
This book offers easy to read maps and drawings with a personal touch not seen in other guides of this type. A wealth of information has been gathered and revealed within the text. This just one of a series of books that has a unique handcrafted touch were value will increase with time. In Front Range Bouldering texts the author has obviously taken the time to walk around and observe each individual boulder by drawing them and notating their features. Great bargain.

Lovely Hikes.......2003-11-05
Most of the hikes in this book are simple hikes as well, so it is great if you have children with you. The book also serves as a reference guide for the different flowers you will see on your hike. The book shows the best time of year to hike the particular trails in correspondence with when the flowers are in bloom. Nice book to have on hand.
Great book for Wildflower Hikes.......2000-03-08
I've taken a number of the hikes in this book and been very pleased. Very useful for wildflower photogs or anyone who enjoys nature. Directions and descriptions are easy to follow and accurate.
Great summary of good hikes just outside of Denver.......1999-08-09

Don't be afraid to buy comic books.......2003-09-06
Flaming Carrot is funny. The Carrot likes to go on long drankin benders, play games with death, and pick up boozy tramps from local dives. In addition to this, he can be found patrolling the nighttime alleys and deserted, moonlit rooftops of Iron City, sniffing out evil where it lurks. It often appears that Carrot has some sort of speech/learning impediment, but in the end, he usually gets all the chicks. So what does that tell ya?
For the love of all that is sacred, buy this book!.......1998-10-31
I give this book only four stars because Burden's art isn't always tops, but the incredibly hilarious story, for the most part, makes up for it. Better than the previous FC collection, this one features the russian James Bond, and the Carrot's mask comes off!!!
