In July 2002, UIA agreed to promote their criteria on Architectural Education, worldwide. Among various criteria, we can clearly find necessity of teaching the architectural programming in school. With understanding this situation, I can recommend this as the BEST TEXT BOOK among others in this field,

Comments from a novice in stained glass.......2000-05-28

My husband and I have purchased several books on the subject of stained glass intended for those of us who are just beginners. This was one of our more recent purchases. We've found it quite useful - perhaps because we're strictly focusing on the copper foil technique. We find ourselves constantly returning to the book to re-read sections for new ideas.

In our experience thus far with the book, we've found that the author has provided us with a significant number of tips that we might otherwise have missed or else have had to spend a large amount of time doing something the wrong way when a subtle change in technique makes all the difference.

Like all introductory books, it does cover a variety of subjects. The variety of projects suggested in the book provide plenty of scope for experimentation. We wouldn't make this the very first book for beginners - for that we would pick the one by George Shannon and Pat Torlen. We wore the binding out of that one very quickly because of the amount of use it got! However, having gained a little experience with the copper foil technique, we've found we're now ready to take advantage of the additional techniques and suggestions provided by this author.

An Okay Book for Beginners but Little Detail.......1998-02-01

I was a bit disappointed upon reading "Stained Glass : A Guide to Today's Tiffany Copper Foil Technique". As a beginner in stained glass who had already exhausted every book in our local library and had already created one project with great success, I found the book to be a bit sparse on details. I purchased the book because I wanted to hone my skills and learn why I was having minor problems with my project (i.e. true tricks of the trade). I had ordered this thinking I would get a more definitive text on the copper foil method. However, this book doesn't fit the bill. Simply put, it is a good introduction to the craft but nothing more than that. The book tries to be three things and, in many ways, fails at all three. First, it tries to be a glossy coffee-table text -- but the photos focus more on the authors work than on contemporary or historic stained glass pieces. In fact, Tiffany and LaFarage, the fathers of this method, are barely even discussed or presented. A few examples from the masters would have at least been inspiration; a discussion of their methods would have been divine. Second, this book tries to be a beginner's introduction to this craft. However, there is not enough detail presented to sway the beginner from many common pitfalls. For example, copper foil has an adhesive backing that holds it to the glass. Dirty glass will cause it to fall off and the piece will eventually fall apart. There is very little discussion of the importance of cleaning glass prior to assembly in the text -- something a beginner may not think of. Other skills such as glasscutting, grinding, and leading are discussed but definitely not in enough detail to answer many of the questions a new hobbyist would encounter. Finally, this book is a project book. Frankly, I found the projects to be a bit dated as if they came from the 1970's. And, the focus on these projects takes away from the truly important portion of the text that teaches about the craft. Overall, this book is simply an introduction to basic skills -- but doesn't detail these skills -- filled with photos of the author's and select friends works that in some cases are truly exquisite, but do not represent the true depth of the craft. Overall, it is an average text.

all the images are captivating. it's wonderful to the point where i don't want to send them to anyone in fear that they'll get ruined. i'm very tempted to frame them all and stick them up on my wall. it's amazing... all these pictures of the world that you never knew existed. it's like the real life part of the world, not the media part. i highly suggest you purchase this it you love unique items, art, postcards, and the like. i'm now planning on buying the book that inspired these postcards.

A Great Teaching Tool.......2003-01-08

The cards are not only beautiful, but are very fine teaching aids. I use them as writing prompts for upper elementary and middle school kids, and they would work for adults as well. I've also used them in teaching English as a Second Language. It is nice to have interesting images to discuss, in any language. And, of course, they are excellent for art classes -- for discussions of line, shape, foreground, background, movement, focal point, etc. Oh, one more thing I use them for. My kids pick one a night, and we make up stories about what we see, or imagine we see, in the card -- where it might be, what the people might be doing, or some such flight of imagination. In short, this excellent set is a very versatile communication tool.

love it!.......2002-03-21

I have a bunch of the postcards from this collection hanging on the wall of my apartment. They are beautiful and striking - mini works of art! The postcards are square shaped and on high quality paper. They come in a funky metal tin. This collection is a really good value either as decor or to actually send the postcards. It would make a great gift. It is a well-edited collection of images from around the world which I highly recommend.

From the late '40s, Robert Capa's Magnum agency became intimately involved in the world of cinema. His personal contacts with leading directors and producers allowed him exclusive (and lucrative) access to the sets, the movie-makers, and the stars.

This book takes us from that time right up to recent days, but the climax of the book has to be its coverage of The Misfits, the final movie of Clark Gable and Marylin Monroe. The pictures of Monroe's public and private faces, along with commentary of the day, gives us an insight into her last big show - in a way only Magnum photographers can make.

The entire collection of Magnum photo books are both magical, and inexpensive. Perhaps I'm biased, but I found this glimpse into the lives of the stars and starlets of screen, and stage most appealing. I'd highly reccomend any of the titles in tha Magnum library to anyone interested in history, and or photography.

Women on their nerves are world wide.......2007-02-16

Excellent book. The more honest book about psycology of women ever. I got it from a female friend, women enjoy it, but men will enjoy and learn from it.

From the book I learned and confirmed so much about being in a relationship with a woman (Mother, girlfriend, syster, daughter, wife, coworker). This book reflects in a humorous, concise and graphical way, the daily and simple adventures of modern women, while getting bottom line without offending anybody.

This book would prevent many problems between couples beforehand. Maitena goes deep into the reality of every possible serious situation from dating to parenting with the magic of creating laughs as eventually you will get yourself in it ( and hopefully safe out of it).

Maitena the argentinian female writer is a master of words and painting. I hope the english translation be ready soon.

Feminismo Inteligente.......2004-07-24

En un mundo de comics donde las mujeres tienen poca cabida, Maitena se perfila como una de las mas fuertes exponentes del feminismo inteligente, narrando el complejo mundo de la mujer a través del humor gráfico. Como hombre me encantan sus cartones y me ha ayudado a comprender a mi pareja. Maitena muestra un feminismo refinado, intelectual y no misandro.

Maitena is an argentinian cartoonist, who delights in surprising the reader, and making him laugh. Her sense of humor is rather acerbic, but I think that is quite refreshing. Her cartoons center on women, what happens to us (at work, in relationships, etc...) and how we think. Maybe you won't identify with what happens in many of her comics, but you'll certainly feel others depict quite closely what happens to you or your friends.

After having success with her cartoons, she was asked to compile them in books. This is the first of her books in the "Mujeres Alteradas" ("Altered women") series. In a recent New York Times's article Maitena explained the reason for the title of the series. She said that "To me an altered woman is one who has all of these battlefields open at the same time". "We've got work, men, maternity, our body, our friends, our mothers, a whole bunch of things, and that's what puts us in an altered state, in which we can go from euphoria to a depressed crying jag in 15 minutes".

I really enjoyed this compilation of cartoons, and I believe you are highly likely to do the same, provided you know at least a little bit of spanish, or are well predisposed to reading it with the help of a small english-spanish/spanish-english dictionary. Having already taken the "language issue" into consideration, I think I can strongly recommend this book to you. I would like to finish this review with a quotation from the article I mentioned above. There Maitena says that "Women are not all the same, but the same things happen to us". In my opinion, that is the reason why all women (and men interested in knowing more about us) will love this book.

This book has a lot of jokes (in spanish) regarding everyday life nowadays, from a modern woman's point of view. The author, Maitena, is quite well-known in Argentina, and her work has also been published in Spain and France.

If you read it, not only will you have fun, you'll also improve your spanish. I recommend it to women, but also to men (I think that after reading this book they are highly likely to understand us better:)!!).
