although i am a newly graduated architect i found this book very useful in the field of arch. presentation and drawing as it learns you how to draw plans and section in an effective and easy way , it concentrates on pencil drawing more than colors as it is the baisc drawing machine in addition to some colored examples , Very recommended for new arch. students ....

Clearly written and highly illustrative, it takes advantage of tips and techniques that many designers have learned over the years. It serves as a resource for ideas, illustrates the use of symbols and textures, and also includes a section on the use of computer software in landscape drawing. Topics include presentation graphics, tools for accurate plan drawing, line drawing, good lettering, symbol drawing and symbol category descriptions, defining the ground plane (turf, hardscapes, mulch, and groundcover), plan drawing, color techniques, section-elevation drawing, and computer graphics and landscape drawing software. For residential landscape designers and architects.

First time landscape designers.......2007-05-07
This book is ideal for people starting out in the landscape design area.
It has helpful drawings and ideas.
It lets one know the basic instruments one needs to get started.
prfect book .......2007-03-10
i think this the most usfel book for designers to use not only the beginers but olso for the professionals.
not enough.......2006-11-06
hi chaps, the book it is not too bad it shows you everething about how to design, plans elevations etc... but i bought the book because I was interested in graphic symbols and the wasn't enough so I return the book.
Even tough a good book for a person how is looking the get in the stage of learning the process of drawing.
I too only wish I had gotten book sooner.......2004-10-26
This book is great. I am a junior landscape architecture major, and my introductory classes skipped over the important basic details. Even though I've caught onto the basic skills over time, this book is a great reference and I'm still finding new things. This book is very easy to follow and a has a few pages of colored pages so that you can see his marker and colored pencil examples. I would most definitely recommend this book!!
Great Book!.......2004-05-31
Great book, this guy knows what he's talking about.
Great design graphics. Great information. All in one easy to read text.
Rock on Tony.
Did I say this book is great?
Book Description
Newly-drawn scale drawings of 100 significant and influential buildings brought together for reference in one handy volume.
This book provides the essential data for landmark buildings of modern architecture. Arranged chronologically for purposes of comparison, each building is represented by color photographs as well as accurate scale drawings prepared for use by students and professionals. Succinct text gives the history of each building and shows why it is innovative and important. An accompanying CD-ROM contains all the drawings, allowing readers to examine them in detail and to resize them for use in their own work. An opening essay gives a brief overview of the history of architecture in the twentieth century, highlighting key developments. Among the architects included are Frank Lloyd Wright, Antoni Gaudí, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto, Le Corbusier, Gunnar Asplund, Charles and Ray Eames, Jorn Utzon, Louis Kahn, Eero Saarinen, Robert Venturi, Norman Foster, Mario Botta, Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, Daniel Libeskind, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, and many more. 150 color illustrations, 500 line drawings, CD-ROM.
Customer Reviews:
Good resource.......2007-03-08
This book delivers as its title promises, Plans, Sections, and Elevations. However, there are few (only one per building) pictures of the spaces in each building.
Key Buildings of the Twentieth Century.......2007-02-08
This is a very good reference that will appeal to practicing architects as well as students of architecture. The CD that comes with the book contains plans, elevations and sections of these key buildings and this is perhaps one of the main reasons for purchasing it. This 'strength' is also perhaps also one of the books major weeknesses as all drawings are in dxf and postscript formats, which means they are displayed in a single colour inside your CAD program and/or Photoshop. Given the size and complexity of some of the buildings in this book, having all lines as a single colour is at times very confusing for the eye. The dxf files do not contain any text, so it's a matter of looking at the drawings in both the book and on the screen at the same time; though the text in the book is also a bit on the 'light' side; and genreally you're often left to your own devices in determining the function of many rooms. All drawings are reasonably well executed but have an unfinished feel that I found quite annoying. That said, Key Buildings of the Twentieth Century is a valuable reference source for anyone wishing to study these key buildings. I don't think too many purchasers will be dissapointed with what they find inside its covers.
Not good enough.......2007-01-31
Not pretty enough for a coffee table book and definitely not informative enough as a resource for an architecture student.
Excellent Resource.......2006-02-24
I am a current architecture student in college and found this book to be a wondrful resource. So often, as students, we are urged to look at precedents to learn how other architects have solved problems, or designed for a certain climate, or what materials they used for different projects. This book provides a good insight to many famous projects by many different architects and is a good read. It also comes with scaled drawings of each project on a CD-ROM which is also a nice bonus.
Great Teaching Resource.......2005-06-01
This book is valuable for anyone in Architecture education at any level. The accompanying CD provides .DXF files that can be used by a variety of CAD/3D software programs.

Book Description
Based on many years of painstaking research and covering eleven centuries of medieval, modern and contemporary history, The Alhambra represents a major contribution to world scholarship.
During his research for the book, the author has made some very exciting discoveries. He has, for example, resolved one of the great enigmas of Nasrid art by discovering the geometric proportional system on which the entire Alhambra architecture and decoration are based. The designs are at times so intricate that they baffle even professional mathematicians: Professor Fernández-Puertas has cracked the geometric code and discovered that the marvels of the Alhambra are built on a proportional system that is essentially incommensurable and not based on fixed units like metres or inches. This has involved making hundreds of analytical figures, many of which will be included in the book.
Professor Fernández-Puertas is also the first to discover the chronological order in which the Alhambra palaces were built. He has collated much fragmentary information in order to reconstruct a picture of court life within the Alhambra and the personalities of its sultans and poet-viziers. The book thus contains the heart of three centuries of Nasrid art, as well as providing a history of the palatine city from the ninth century to the present day: the pre-Nasrid Alhambra, the Nasrid Alhambra and the Christian Alhambra.
Based on many years of painstaking research and covering eleven centuries of medieval, modern and contemporary history, The Alhambra will be the most comprehensive scientific work yet issued on the subject--a work of this order is unlikely to be published again within our lifetime.

Photography Provides on-the-spot information for using a 35mm camera. Customer Reviews:
A handy guide for the photographer on the go.......2005-07-22
This is a very handy guide to have for the SLR user. While it doesn't have anything that the pros don't already know, it's a big help to the amateur enthusiast just learning the joys of 35mm photography. All the basics (loading film, lenses, aperture, flash, etc.) are covered nicely and the photo examples in the book are great. They're small, but this is a pocket guide after all. I agree with one reviewer who said that the book should be updated. Despite that, you can't really go wrong having this book in the camera bag to use as a quick reference when shooting in the field. It's a solid little guide that would go together nicely with one of Kodak's bigger guides.
An Indispensable Pocket Reference.......2003-04-12
This little book tucks right into my camera bag, so it's easy to take along on photo outings. If you're at all serious about learning how to take better 35mm photos, you need to have this little book on hand for when you have those burning questions about light conditions, aperature/shutter speed combinations, etc. This isn't a book that is necessarily a stand-alone guide. Think of it as a quick reference to the bigger version. While this little book is a decent collection of quick tips for the field, if you're really serious about learning 35mm photography, get bigger Kodak guide as well.
When good, if easy... better........2002-09-27
This is a great easy to follow guide for picture taking, and correct use of equipment. Also very helpfull for litlle technical tips and composition remarks whenever you mostly need them. This handy manual, is perfect for carring in a camera case or in your car. However, its excelent for a beginner, for a more experienced photographers might seem too simple; but still good enough as a practical remminder.
Good but needs an update.......2002-03-19
This small book packs a lot of useful information. It's size makes it possible to carry it in your pocket or bag. It covers the most essential points of photography. Great for starters! My only criticism: it needs an update. Modern SLR's are not covered and the illustrations make you feel like you've picked up a second hand book from the 80's. Hopefully Kodak will make a new and updated edition.
Great travel photography guide.......2000-09-20
The book is an excellent guide to take with you on a trip. It is lightweight, compact, and summarizes ideas needed for good pictures. I have the Nikon and National Geographic guides and about ten other photography books. All are are too heavy to take on an overseas trip.

Could have been better.......2004-10-31
The KODAK Pocket Guide to Point-and-Shoot Photography is a very basic book that covers some basic techniques for making photographs with a compact camera. It tells you when to use flash and when not to, it tells something about framing subjects etc. This is all basic and useable information for anyone who for example wonders why all of his nighttime flash-photos always come out with a pitch black background. What this book does not cover is some very essential information about the working of a compact camera. In other words, it does not tell you that the metering system of any (compact) camera 'sees' everything as a middle gray tone. To get a correct is exposure it is essential that one knows this, especially with a compact camera that does not have an manual override function like an SLR camera, this book does not mention this at all even though it is so essential to get a correct exposed photo. That's why i give this only book four stars instead of five.
Book will not help you use your point and shoot camera.......2001-05-26
I bought this book hoping that it would serve as a supplement for the ridiculously small instruction pamphlet that accompanied my highly rated Samsung Evoca 140S point and shoot camera. Although point and shoot cameras are by their name supposed to make taking pictures easy, the Samsung instructions are written for people who are familar with more difficult cameras and just want an easier and smaller camera.
If you are looking for an extended instruction pamphlet describing the use of features generally found in point and shoot cameras this book is not for you. The few useful ideas it contains concern picture taking in general and have nothing to do with point and shoot cameras in particular. If the book had been included for free with a three pack roll of Kodak film you would not have thought that you were getting anything extra of note for your money.
The only good thing I can say about the book is that the paper is slick and of high quality. It is in color and appoximately 3" x 6" and 110 pages long. In my opinion it is worth about 25 cents from a usefulness point of view.

A good basic introduction to photography.......2005-04-06
Of note about this book is that it is not an historical perspective of pocket cameras, it is rather an introduction to the concepts of photography for pocket camera users. This book starts with an introduction to 110, 126, and 35mm compact cameras with basic coverage about film and flash in the first section. The next sections are well defined simple lessons on framing, light, composition, event photography, landscapes, etc. Other than the first section, which covers the basics of equipment, this book presents a very good introduction to photography for beginners and even helpful hints for experienced photographers, regardless what camera is being used. Michael Langford's style is concise yet informative while providing for an easy read. Just what someone needs to get started in photography whether you use a pocket camera or not.
