Good places but lack of content and small pictures........2007-05-08

Please read the reviews before buying this book since you might get or not what you are looking for.

In my opinion the pictures selected are not bad at all but more than half of them are too small. You'll even find a blank page with a 2" x 2" picture on the upright corner, that's bad since the page is not even populated with content about the picture. It's a global tour of some of the trendiest resorts in the globe but once again poorly presented in terms of content and sizes of the pictures selected. When the pictures are not small then it's the angle selected that doesn't give us a whole idea of the space. The only value that I found was the list of locations that could then be visit by internet for more details. I'm giving it 3 out 5 starts since despite all the cons it was not expensive.

Tropical Travel.......2004-05-28

A nice book with information on a variety of tropical travel resorts. The photos are great, but too small and info informative. A great idea that could have been executed better. Wonder if they were saving on printing costs since the pictures are so small. Nevertheless, I purchased a copy when it was a bargain book so I don't feel cheated as I do enjoy the book.

Completely Overrated- Must Miss!!.......2002-04-15

Good topic but poor execution. Its obvious that little time was spent producing this book. Compared to similar books, the pictures of the hotels are quite small, limited in number and not of the best quality. Additionally, there are a number of other resorts listed in the back where the author has merely included a brief description of the resort along with a tiny picture. I was expecting more in-depth coverage of these resorts. Also, the map in the front of the book is wrong. They have mislocated certain resorts- placing resorts in the Indian Ocean on the continent of Africa. Sloppy work!!!

Exotic travel & Architecture book, inpirational.......2001-06-12

An exotic travel book and an exotic architecture book in one. Even though I am not a hotel or resort designer, nor am I actively searching for a vacation spot, this book was ideal for me since I was looking to create the open, breezy, jungle feel of these tropical spaces in my own home.

Over twenty different resorts are detailed with numerous photos of each as well as information on design principles, materials used, interior design and amenities. There is also a people and places section give information on the architect, owner, and the resort's history. Sixteen others are contained on single pages with a few small photos and text on the layout and design.

I love the vibrant colors and spacious feel of the Hotel Bel Air Costa Careyes. I also like the Hotel Salto Chico with its abundance of huge windows and the Hotel Bora Bora that has all its bungalows on stilts over the water. Since one day I hope to live in a dome home I love circular layout plan provide by the Banyan Tree Maldives.

I like it that the book features resorts that are have taken steps to be environmentally friendly. In case you would like to visit some of these beautiful places there is a map showing where each is located. Contact information including phone, website and email for each is also here.

This book takes you on a journey through the world to exotic locations. It is great for people looking for exciting travel destinations or for building and décor ideas for their own homes.

I agree with the majority of the reviews here. This is an invaluable reference book. Put it this way, this book will likely save you at least one re-spin on a complex board. That alone will pay for it's cost many times over.

The only reason I give this book a 4 star rating is because of the information that was removed from fourth to fifth edition. To serve as a complete reference you must buy both editions. The topics covered are significantly different.

Excellent books. Must have for any person involved in Printed circuit board industry.

Not for designing PCB.......2002-07-26

I bougth this book to have a reference on the desing of PCB. (How wide to design the traces, what distance should i use betweeen traces...) I found it prety useless.

Nevertheless, it is a goog book to undestand the process and manifacturing of PCB, if this is your business

Complete coverage by a number of writers with diverse backgrounds. The highest praise I can give is that I use it daily!

A good book for the engineering shelf but needs updating.......1999-02-20

This is a good book that has been around in earlier editions. The editor has done a credible job of finding knowledgeable people to write for him. I have used all of the earlier editions of this book at one time or another and have found it helpful along the way but it needs updating more often to avoid becoming a history book.

Excellent Review of Electroplating. Editing needs work........2007-06-03

I have read through about a third of this book in an effort to update my electroplating knowledge and learn about some areas of electroplating I don't normally practice.

Generally speaking, this is an excellent review of the field and has been updated to include information on additive use in copper electroplating and developments in alloy electroplating for electronics.

On the downside, the editing of the book as a whole seems to be non-existent. The quality of individual chapters varies widely. This leaves me with the impression that Schlesinger and Paunovic only checked to see if the chapters were written in English and stopped at that point. Some chapters are a delight to read (like the chapter on palladium) while others are peppered with typographical errors, missing equations and such like things (e.g. the chapter on chromium). Also the varying values of Faraday's constant throughout the book indicates that no effort was made to enforce consistency of constants and units throughout the book. I was so irritated by this that I spent two or three hours finding out exactly what Faraday's constant should be (it's 96,485.3 Coulombs/mole). Electrochemical Deposition.......2001-05-26

This book being the first of its kind in the industry on electrochemical deposition is very informative and interesting. Copper damanscene being the future for CMP has somwhat made this book a neccessity to all personnel working in the micro electronics industry.

The book gives a good grounding on electrochemical deposition and the underlying parameters that affect deposition.

The only setback is that there is no effort being made to link the findings in the deposition of copper and how it affects the final CMP process.

Being a new and first of its kind this is forgivable.

The Best Book Of Essays On Photography I've Read.......2003-12-01

I wish I had read A. D. Coleman's "Light Readings" years ago when I was studying photography. I have no doubt I would have become a much better photographer than I am now, taking to heart his profound commentaries on photography when it became accepted finally as one of the fine arts. Not only was A. D. Coleman the first major photo critic in photography's history, his early essays set a literary and intellectual standard which few have attained. In this newly revised, updated edition of "Light Readings", Coleman offers us some fascinating remarks on the Museum of Modern Art and its pivotal role in shaping the direction of fine art photography, most notably through the personal tastes of John Szarkowski, its autocratic director of the photography department. In one of the unpublished essays now appearing in the current edition, Coleman offers a harsh criticism of a book regarded by some as an important collection of photographic criticism, written by a well known novelist and essayist. Reprints of early Pogo.......2005-11-19

This collection reproduces a half-dozen Animal Comics magazines, with covers, from 1945 an `46. These 8-10 page stories feature Pogo, Albert, Churchy, and Howland Owl, from back when they were still finding their voices. The hillbilly accents are a lot thicker than in later Pogo, and the characters' looks haven't settled into final forms, either.

It's interesting to see Pogo's (and Kelly's) progression, using these comics as an early point in the sequence. Albert gets an infestation of mice in one of these stories, much the way the future Albert becomes a roost for bats. Dr. Ledgerdemain Z. Presto and his wondrous elixir create a sense of deja vu when a foxy future character bottle swamp water for for sale. But those retellings are far in Pogo's future, so these stories are easy enough to enjoy on their own.

These stories are really for the Pogo completist. They fill in his history, and let the Pogo fan see how he matured over time. I have to admit, though, I like the later Pogo better.
