Pretty useful book on cold-formed design .......2007-01-20
I have not gone through 1 chapter yet. But the inroduction is already illuminating about aspects of cold-formed members, which are not so clearly explained in other books I've come across. The only setback is it is not in SI units, making it hard to use in places like Singapore.

Cold formed steel is cheap and widely supply in some country. By using the code in this book, I can reduce so much material cost from expensive imported wide flange into a self made double I beam by using 2 C light lip. This book is practical can be use in real construction by following detailed example.
The code is very new and up to date. This is the book you should not miss..

Writen as a text book, this work looks at in particular the behavior of cold formed steel members. It gives complete and useful information regarding the strength of thin elements common to cold formed steel and a guide to design. The information is also very applicable to larger hot rolled steel member design in that it illustrates what design assumptions are taken for granted when designing with thicker members. Subjects included are flexural and compression members, cylindrical tubular members, connections, diaphragms, shell roofs structures, corrugated sheet, and composite design. Overall a very useful resource.

I thought this was a great book! The author did a great job of spelling out examples without leaving out many steps. You shouldn't have any problem working with this book if you are a new-comer to statistics.
A GREAT BOOK!.......1999-10-15
Statistics can be a very boring subject. Most of us remember, at one time or another, taking a statistics course. One thing we all remember very well is not wanting to look at let alone read our statistics texts. Dr. Blaisdell transforms this extraordinarily dry subject into an interesting medley of mean median a la mode. Definitely recommended to any instructor trying to reduce the number of students who drop their class....

The big problem with this software is that most of my students get a higher score on this than on the real test, so remember that when you're preparing.

I run a test prep service and am *very* familiar with this product.
ETS (the company that makes the GMAT, GRE, and SAT) released this software soon after they switched over from the paper-based format to the current computer adaptive test.
What does this mean? Well, in a word, you are buying a beta-version of the current GMAT: the real GMAT is *much* more difficult than this test!
Many of our students can ace this test, yet they get 100 to 200 points *less* on the real test!
Why is this? Well, part of the reason is that most of the questions from this software comes from the official GMAT book and many students become familiar with that book before they take the test.
What are some other reasons?
Well, the math questions that you will get with this software are not as hard as the real ones if you are scoring pretty high (over 80%).
The reading passages on the real test are longer than the ones you will find in this program, as well.
Finally, since the GMAT is now adaptive, the order of questions is important--for example, if you excel at sentence correction and the first few questions are sentence correction, then you will get a high score. However, if you are not good at sentence correction, then your score will be abysmally low.
In short, this is the best prep available right now, but, if you can, wait for the 3.0 release in June of 2000.

This software does not give you anything new. The "Official Guide for the GMAT" by ETS already has the same practice problems.
I found the software in "Cracking the GMAT CAT" by the Princeton Review to me much more helpful.
Easier than the real thing.......2000-01-28
I studied for the GMAT using this software and the ARCO GMAT study book. I did not find nearly the same types of questions on the real thing (quantitative section) as in the practice software--exponets, geometry, proportions, etc. I wonder if due to the intense studying of their practice software if the ETS folks revamped the GMAT test. It is helpful, but don't bet too much on it. I scored much higher on the practice tests than on the real bugger (taken Jan 2000).

I have installed this on NT, but cannot get the tests or any sample questions to appear. I get a "limited system resource" error, but this is bogus with my setup.

This book is a tutorial on image processing. Each chapter explains basic concepts with words and figures, shows image processing results with photographs, and implements the operations in C. The C code in this book is based on a series of articles published in The C Users Journal from 1990 through 1993, and includes three entirely new chapters and six new appendices. The new chapters are 1) an introduction to the entire system, 2) a set of routines for Boolean operations on images -- such as subtracting or adding one with another, 3) a batch system for performing offline processing (such as overnight for long involved manipulations). The C Image Processing System (CIPS) works with Tag Image File Format (TIFF) gray scale images. The entire system has been updated from the original publications to comply with the TIFF 6.0 specification from June 1993 (the magazine articles were written for the TIFF 5.0 specification.) The text and accompanying source code provide working edge detectors, filters, and histogram equalizers, I/O routines, display and print procedures that are ready to use, or can be modified for special applications. Print routines are provided for laser printers, graphics printers, and character printers. Display procedures are provided for monochrome, CGA, VGA, and EGA monitors. All of these functions are provided in a system that will run on a "garden variety" PC, not requiring a math co-processor, frame grabber, or Super VGA monitor.
Audience: Programmers seeking tools for image processing, ranging from the basics to advanced techniques. System Requirements: Any PC with a hard disk. Slower the machine, the slower the processing, but the system does not require a math co-processor or special imaging board. A regular VGA monitor is preferred, but you can use the system with an EGA or CGA monitor. The code was compiled with Microsoft C v 6. The code should run using other compilers with little modification.
