Product Description
Most organisations have problems to explain and manage the economic benefits of Enterprise Architecture. Managers often asked me what Enterprise Architecture can do for me. At the same time several Governmental organisations are adopting Enterprise Architecture as part of their change and E-Government initiatives.
A holistic Enterprise Architecture approach can deliver a lot of benefits to organisations depending on the focus where to find these benefits. Even so Enterprise Architecture delivers the foundation for Enterprise Portfolio Management, the ultimate business driver for Enterprise Architecture.
The main purpose of this book is achieving awareness at management level as well as at enterprise architects level about adopting an economic approach when dealing with Enterprise Architecture programs.
This book explains the areas of economic benefits of Enterprise Architecture programs, the different views as well as a holistic approach to show the areas of economic benefits. Economic methods, models and approaches are described in short to show, how to quantify and manage the economic benefits of Enterprise Architecture programs as well as how Enterprise Architecture supports Enterprise Portfolio Management.
This book has not the intention to be a scientific research document, nor a handbook to deliver solutions for all your EA related economic issues. The intention of the book is showing (board) management, CxO’s, business & IT managers, enterprise architects and students, that they can make progress in the determination of the economic value of Enterprise Architecture programs by adopting some economic methods and defining a process of collecting data of Enterprise Architecture effected activities and programs.
With the growing importance of Enterprise Architecture at the same time, the discussion started how to align Business and IT on a natural way, now and in the future and how this fits in the overall Enterprise Portfolio. This book is also showing that alignment of business and technology is hard to do, but there is hope.
This book is giving a holistic overview of the areas of economic benefits of Enterprise Architecture as well as the role, position and purpose of Enterprise Architecture programs in organizations as the foundation for change in Business and IT, embraced by Enterprise Portfolio Management. Cost / benefit figures from public sources are added to this book to show the effects of economic measurement. For the in-depth details of the described Enterprise Architecture economic approaches and methods, several references to the original sources of information are added in the chapters Terms & Definitions, References & Bibliography and Interested Links.

Slow, Tedious Over-Detailed Writing...But Read It Anyway.......2005-02-26
I really wanted to like this book...I really did. And it's not really that bad. DuBois grants us a very revealing look at his young life, along with his education and intellectual development. His early observations and analysis of life are insightful and thought provoking. Still his writing lacks pace and fails to flow in any way other than tediously. Despite being regarded by many as one of the great men of the 20th century, his memoirs grant little to convey that greatness and leaves the reader unfulfilled at truly grasping his many accomplishments. However, DuBois' revelations regarding the N.A.A.C.P. are very interesting, and one of the better parts of the book. If you have plenty of time to spare (it's over 400 pages long) you may attain more from it than this reviewer did.
"One of the greatest thinkers ever".......2000-04-02
This book should be read by everyone who is interested in civil rights. Dubois was the pioneer of the civil rights movement and anything he had to say deserves to be read. This book is just as important as the Autobiographies of both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. After reading this book I realized what bravery was all about. Dubois didn't have the luxury of a "movement" behind him, he stood alone. He spoke his mind to whomever he felt was hindering the progress of blacks in America. Not only did he stand alone and speak his mind but he did it in a time when a black man would be lynched simply for looking at a white person the wrong way. This book is written with the same poetic style as most of his other work and continues the story of his battle against oppression where "Souls of Black Folk", and "Darkwater" leave off. You will definately benefit by taking the time to read the almost century long journey of one of the greatest thinkers and writers the world has ever seen.

Book Description
Your one-stop classical workshop! At last, over 175 of Shakespeare's finest and most performable monologues taken from all thirty-seven plays are here in two easy-to-use volumes (Men and Women). Selections travel the entire spectrum of the great dramatist's vision, from comedies, wit and romances, to tragedies, pathos and histories. Soliloquy! is an excellent and comprehensive collection of Shakespeare's speeches. Not only are the monologues wide-ranging and varied, but they are superbly annotated. Each volume is prefaced by an informative and reassuring introduction, which explains the signals and signposts by which Shakespeare helps the actor on his journey through the text. It includes a very good explanation of blank verse, with excellent examples of irregularities which are specifically related to character and acting intentions. These two books are a must for any actor in search of a 'classical' audition piece.'- Elizabeth Smith, Voice Director, Juilliard
Customer Reviews:
Not just for actors.......2004-01-31
This compact little book, and its companion volume (same editors) of Shakespeare monologues for women, are wonderful resources for anyone who likes to memorize poetry.
Learning verse, rather than just reading verse, is tremendously rewarding: think of it like stocking a pond with fish so you've got food for thought for the rest of your life.
The book is thin, covers all the "best bits" of Shakespeare for memorization, and has all the explanatory & interpretive notes you need to understand them. Highly, highly recommended.
A good guide to the most popular Shakespeare for women.......2002-03-05
This book explores many of the most widely-know and popular monolouges for Shakespeare for female characters and a few select monolouges for male characters. The best part about this book is that the monolouges not often comprised of smaller speeches, cut up and pasted. Most of these monolouges are classic, tried and true and really useful for Shakespearen auditions and readings. An adequate amount of plot explanation and scene information is provided, as are explanations for the Elizabethan terminology. Nothing is left unsaid as far as preparation, meaning and suggestions on how a scene should be done. But the lack of variety and the absence of many well-known and good monolouges made me give this book only four stars. I would only recommend this to an actress just starting out in Shakespeare, who dosen't know a lot of Shakespeare plays and would be unable to go direct to the source for a monolouge, or have a certain play in mind. This gives a nice sampling of plays and characters to start out with. But for actresses who know and have experience with Shakespeare, it would probably be even more useful to go to the actual play to find your monolouge.
An excellent resource.......2001-05-05
Here is an excellent resource for finding Shakespearean monolouges. Earley and Keil have made superb selections and provided the actor with helpful annotation, glossaries and summaries. Of course reading and performing these pieces effectively ultimately requires the actor to read the entire work in order to build a proper context, this volume proves most helpful.
HELPFUL.......1999-07-10
This book is very helpful in the memorization of the Monologues. It has full footnotes and even guidelines on how to act out the lines. If it weren't for this book I highly doubt I would have gotten as many Shakespearean parts as I have.

Long Rave The King.......2007-08-03
This is Mark Twain at his political satirical most incisiveness. It was well documented that at this point in his life, Twain spoke out bravely against many of the world's atrocities and this "soliloquy" is so wry that at times it feels nearly sympathetic, a literary device that brings the reader into a greater sense of anger and disgust at the callousness of deeds and thought from the King of Belgium. Historically, it is a must read for anyone studying world history and the story of King Leopold and his influence at the Berlin conference of 1884-85 is a fascinating side note to the events and political infighting that eventually would lead to the first World War. For Twain buffs, its a departure in tone that makes it even the more fascinating.
Excellent work!.......2006-06-07
The front cover of the printing I have (International Publishers, New York, 1961) is so relevant even now. You see a picture of a cross, over a machete, over a black background. And, above it all, a Crown.
Twain's genius, so superior to that of John Conrad in the racist "Heart of Darkness", is reflected in his use of the the main character's own defense to effectively hang himself. Twain manages to provide many factual examples of actual reports of abuses without casting off his fiction-writer robes. Well done. Well done!
REMARKABLE AND WELL DOCUMENTED.......2003-11-18
mark twain's accounts of king leopold's rule in the congo and the colonization of it by the belguims speak of a known but least talked about african holocaust in the congo. over ten million people murdered. congolese people enslaved, mutilated, whipped, tortured, and ect. all under the orders of leopold and belguim. it shows how imperialism in the congo raped the region of its vast resources such as gold, diamonds, cobalt, maganese, rubber and fruit products. this book should definately be read by all, eventhough it a small book, its very powerful and needed. i highly recommend it.
Is it what's really that bad that makes this book so good?.......2000-04-27
In beginning Twain's "King Leopold's Soliloquy", one immediately notices how wordy Twain is. Yet, the context plays a major role in portraying the oddity of how the king actually thought his cruelty was well deserved. This book is pure genius when it comes to irony and sarcasim. One of Twain's most horrid yet thought provoking novels.

Book Description
From the universally celebrated to the less well-known, from the tragic to the comic and the witty to the wise, the monologues of Shakespeare's characters provide some of the most thrilling and memorable moments in his plays. In this collection Michael Kerrigan presents a delightful sampling of Shakespeare's soliloquies, revealing the Bard's poetic genius in all of its range and richness. Here Shakespeare lovers, students, actors, and general readers will find some of the most profound and artfully phrased ruminations on life, death, love, vengeance, and more.

Marred by its layout, and possibly more.......2004-03-08
If you want to study Shakespeare's construction of the soliloquy -- a speech in which one character speaks his thoughts aloud, "to himself" and not to any other character onstage -- then this book may serve you well. Every soliloquy given by every character, male and female, is here.
But Shakespeare's great one-character speeches are often not true soliloquies; they're delivered to another character onstage. (Think "Friends, Romans, countryment, lend me your ears" from Julius Caesar, or Portia's "The quality of mercy is not strained" from Merchant of Venice.) Because Kerrigan's book is limited to the soliloquy subcategory, none of these are here. Nor are any of the alone-on-stage speeches by non-characters, like the Chorus in Henry V ("Now entertain conjecture of a time . . . ).
The layout of the book is inconvenient for flipping through or for getting an overall mental picture of each speech. Presumably to save space -- it's an attractive, smaller-than-normal paperback -- the editor hasn't bothered to start each soliloquy on a new page.
If what you want is to read or to learn Shakespeare's great monologues -- not just the soliloquies -- I'd definitely recommend instead "Soliloquy! The Shakespeare Monologues: The Men" and the corresponding book for "The Women" (both edited by Michael Earley and Philippa Keil). Nice layout, good notes and brief commentaries, and many more of the striking speeches.

Book Description
North America's highest peak, Alaska's Mount McKinley-also known as Denali-rises majestically to a height of 20,320 feet. The book recounts the eventful history of the mountain, which since 1902 has been the site of some of mountaineering's supreme achievements. Coupled with these tales of adventure from two expert climbers are the stunning photographs of Bradford Washburn, who has conquered McKinley three times.
120 illustrations, 41 in full color, 8 maps, 10 3/8 x 12"
Customer Reviews:
Gorgeous and full of information.......1999-10-21
Well written and encyclopedic in its range, this book is also full of amazing photographs.
Better than Ansel Adams!.......1997-10-23
This book is an absolute must for mountain and photography enthusiasts. Washburns photographs of Mt. Mckinley are beyond word description. This is the perfect coffee table book that you will look at hundreds of times. When people look at my copy they can't put it down. The mountain is viewed from every angle from high altitude to on the peak itself. Even though these photos were taken many years ago mountain climbers still use this book to get details for new routes. Washburn squeezes in the climbing history of Mckinley (Of which he and his wife are a big part of), between the incredible full page photos. I love this book. I tell friends that they can look at but don't ask to borrow it!
Customer Reviews:
Bravo!!! This is TOP QUALITY PUBLISHING!.......2002-03-03
Anyone would be greatly impressed at this collection of three early Denali (preferred name of Mt. McKinley) climbing stories. This is not one of those cheap "facsimile" books that are so common in public domain works. This is truly re-typeset to perfection! Photos have been reproduced with crisp contrast at full size to compliment the overall fine layout. Pages are soft; they lay open effortlessly to allow effortless reading.
A remarkable value to find these days. This is the combination of three works that would be prohibitively expensive to own as original editions, yet cost less than one of these, that I am aware of, that is in reprint. The experience is one of handling the original editions because there is so little of the domineering "New introductions" some egomaniacs burden this genre with.
The value of all three in a single volume has a powerful effect on the childish Cookie (Fred Cook) version that both offended and inspired Belmore Browne. He had a passion for exposing Cook and trying to climb Mt. McKinley himself. Recently Bradford Washburn lived up to his objective of "nailing Cook's coffin shut" (See: The Dishonorable Dr. Cook) with his devastating photos of exactly where the fakes occurred - many miles from and miles below the Denali summit. Now look here at Stuck's primitive, but authentically powerful pictures and Cookie becomes even more of a joke. All Fred Cook had going for him was compulsive lying coupled with sickening "poetic descriptions" that lulled weak minds. Not so Stuck! His group can be likened to early, primitive "Sir Edmund Hillary" style mountain climbers. Theirs is a thoroughly satisfying expedition that delivered the real photos, data, and supporting descriptions.
This is a brilliant trio of Denali classics that makes one appreciate Washburn's extraordinary efforts to nail that coffin shut by providing a context to understand why Belmore Browne was so offended with the Fred fraud. Denali is a magnificent natural wonder; Cook's self-serving exploitation of Mt. McKinley was like a dog taking a poop on a rare Persian carpet. Thankfully there were men of character, men with the determination of Browne and Stuck, who sought the reward of reaching that summit in the clouds.
Hats off to everyone who worked on producing this excellent publishing effort. While Washburn nailed the coffin, this book makes you want to grab your own hammer & nails to whack in a few more for good measure. Fun reading, excellent browsing, this is the ultimate reference companion on Denali. Bravo!!! Bravo!!!
