Small album with photos only.......2004-12-14
This small album at only 6.5 x 6.5 inches (16.5 x 16.5 cm) contains almost exclusively photos, but good ones. After book's Introduction, each of 22 main Piano's project is headed by a title page with a very simple, hand drawn sketch or two, followed by a page of text, and only full page or double page photos thereafter. At the end of book, there are a few pages with office personnel list, project credits, selected bibliography, prizes, etc., and small B&W photos of coworkers. This is a non-technical book without plans, sections, etc.

Love this stuff.......2007-09-29
I had always wanted to try chain maille but didn't know where to start. This book gave me all the information I needed. The instructions and diagrams are easy to follow. My first project was the bracelet on page 78, took me about 8 hours all together. We went to Ren Faire and got several compliments on it. It is a lot easier than it looks, just time consuming. I can't wait to get into more involved projects. Plan to do the braided bracelet on page 99 next and more Ren related items.
Chain Mail Jewelrey.......2007-08-05
Just receiving this book excited me for days. The basics of the craft, projects, diagrams and pictures of the finished items were all excellent. A list of suppliers would be helpful as unusual rings were used.
Wonderful Chain Mail.......2007-08-02
Have nearly finished the very first chain mail bracelet I have ever attempted, admittededly it is a beginners bracelet, but I have found the instructions exceptionally clear and easy to read, and the end result
I think will be very satisfying. Will be attempting a few more projects
in the book. The Byzantine Parure set for instance and the wonderful
plaited bracelet and also the really beautiful lariat necklace.
If you are at all interested in chain mail then this is the book for you
and is without doubt the best book available right now for this type
of jewellery. I wish I could find more books with these exceptional
type of projects in it....
GREAT BOOK!!!.......2007-06-13

Book Description
Exciting medium, new formulations: perfect for crafters at all skill levels
Award-winning, best-selling author with great crafts credentials
First book on resin that provides detailed techniques and varied super-appealing projects
Resin jewelry is made from liquid plastic that magically turns solid when a hardener is added. Pretty cool! The popularity of these resins for jewelry making has soared with the introduction of easy-to-mix, low-odor products, ideal for crafters. Now best-selling author Sherri Haab shows how to put the miracle of modern technology to work making necklaces, bangles, bracelets, pins, earrings, and rings. Projects range from simple to sophisticated, from Bakelite-style heart pins to faux amber earrings to glitter gem bracelets, from scrimshaw bracelets to cloisonné pins to transparent resin necklaces backed with gold leaf. Packed with tips on tools, supplies, finishing, and creating special effects, including ideas on combining resins with polymer clay, The Art of Resin Jewelry is a beautiful and practical introduction to an exciting craft.
Customer Reviews:
Safety first.......2007-09-21
You must use protective gear when using resin products but the precautions are worth the results. Sherri shows you how to use epoxy, polyurethane and polyester resins to imbed candy, flowers and found objects to make jewelry elements. You can make imitation amber by including bugs and vegetable matter in resins and make amber's "sun spangles" by mixing in gold or bronze leaf. It's pretty exciting to see how Sherri uses a combination of black polymer clay, very fine glitter, Pearl Ex(tm) powdered pigments and Envirotex Lite® epoxy to make a light-weight cabochon that looks just like dichroic glass.
When using resins, use NIOSH-approved protective gear (respirator and nitrile or butyl gloves) and keep away from food preparation areas. Always read the resin product's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) prior to using it. When drilling or sanding resin pieces, you must wear a dust mask. Other than standard beading tools and findings, an embossing gun will come in handy to get rid of air bubbles during the resin's drying process. You can use ready-made rubber molds or use Sherri's techniques to make your own molds from an existing piece or your original polymer clay sculpture.
If you already enjoy working with polymer clay, working with resins will expand your creativity and this book will help to get you (safely) started.
Choice of art pieces.......2007-09-09
This book is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in making resin jewlery. Its in depth and as always Sherri Haab explains in detail just "how to" do it. My disappointment is with the pieces of jewlery she chose to create. There are only a few that I would duplicate. That said if you are wanting to learn this medium then buy the book.
Great all-round resin jewellery book.......2007-02-10
I am really happy with this book. It has a great selection of projects and lots of different types of resin jewellery. Lots of pictures. I haven't made anything yet but it seems really easy to follow.
this book is great.......2007-01-10
Sherri Haab can always be relied to to produce great books with funky projects that you actually want to make. Can't fault this one at all - fantastic!
Great Book For Inspiring Artists.......2007-01-10
I am speaking on behalf of my company (Fibreglass & Resin Sales), we sell this book to many customers, although some of my staff have also purchased the book. It has great, handy ideas for those who love their crafts, and even those who are new in the craft world! If you interested in Resin Art, I would recommend this book to get you going!!!

MUST HAVE FOR JEWEL Y MAKING LIBRARY.......2006-11-08
This book is so inspirational--lots of ideas and pictures that will move you. It shows so many techniques and designs that you are only limited by your imagination. If you only have one book in your library, this is THE one to get.
Not for a beginner.......2006-03-26
This book is not for someone that has no background in jewelry/metalsmithing. It is in the Quarto style form the publisher. It does cover what is promised. with short descriptive statements. And good photo's for somebody that has read a couple of beginner books the short discriptions will not be a problem. I own it.
Good but not ...very good........2005-05-01
The first twenty pages are interesting because the author take the time to describe the tools and material needed for jewelry making.
But after the author try to describe the most jewelry techniques in a minimum of page: only one or two pages for each technique.
It is very insufficient. The photos are also to small.
Poetry in jewelry.......2003-02-09
I loved this book! It covers so many different kinds of jewelry making. There's enough detail to teach you with plenty of ideas to stretch your imagination. Definitely worth the money.
Real Jewelry Making Techniques Book.......2002-01-24
This is the book I looked for. It has large color photos and detailed step-by-step instructions. It is not only for beginners but also covers challenging techniques. Although the book concentrates on making techniques, it gives very nice examples to apply the techniques.
Book Description
A new wire weaving technique that varies the number of wires and their thickness to create stunningly beautiful bracelets, necklaces, and pendants is introduced in this guide. Project instructions go well beyond simple line drawings to show the assembly process of each piece in a series of step-by-step photographs. The nine projects begin with an elegantly simple woven bracelet and move on to more dramatic projects that include a domed cuff bracelet with soldered bead ends, a free-form bracelet, a woven neck piece, and a pendant with a woven frame. Projects range in difficulty from easy to advanced, and many can be completed without soldering. The more experienced craftsperson will savor the way Precious Metal Clay adds striking embellishments to three of the projects.

A new twist on wire jewelry.......2007-02-19
The jewelry in this book is gorgeous and ultimately not that difficult to make. You will need to find some way to finish the clasps though as the braiding creates a non-conventional end which needs finishing. The book suggests PMC or soldering to accomplish this. There are only about three basic designs and then variations on the closure techniques. Its all very pretty and inspiring and much more classy that simple wire wrapping. You will have to do a little math too, to figure out how much wire you will need. Its a pretty book with a couple of very nice unique ideas upon which you can build once you get the hang of this technique.
EXCELLENT BOOK . . . for the most part.......2006-11-29
I have to admit that since it took two months to receive this book, I had considered canceling my order on more than several occasions. However, am I glad I didn't!! What a beautiful and informative book! The photographs and the designs are all sensational. The projects looked difficult to me at first, but once I looked at the clear blow-by-blow photographs of each step, I have been never been less intimidated, nor so excited, to get my hands into a project! I LOVED the mold-making lessons on how to make sterling silver accents out of PMC clay if I wanted to add them to the necklaces and bracelets. I'm so pleased to find that I can make an entire piece of fine art jewelry without any man-made additions, nor the use of glue, and many times without any soldering. I'm thrilled, and my biggest regret is that I'm marking up this beautiful book with underlines, written notes, and stickies; it is definitely a working book for me.
**Although I stand by the above review written 11/06, I felt that I needed to add to it hoping that if there is a book reprint, the authors will update what I consider one serious breech of instruction clarity. Now that I've tried some of the projects, what I found was that none of the wire amounts necessary were listed. I had to determine the amount of wire for each project by hunting through the body of instructions until I located the wire length and the cuts, and only THEN could I calculate how much wire I needed. This process is repeated over and over again depending on how many gauges of wire are needed for the project. Frankly, it's irritating. Although, to be fair, all the wire information is there to complete each project, you really have to hunt for it.
In a future reprint, it would be VERY helpful for the amount of wire required for each project to be in the supply list along with each of the wire gauges. Brief instructions on how to change the size of the project through wire length adjustments would be sufficient for those users who might want to adapt it, but for the vast majority . . . specific wire amounts given up front would make it much easier to complete a project.
Braid wire in a day!.......2006-09-19
I found the authors' instructions to be very clear. I had no trouble following their instructions, and made a bracelet in a day! I especially liked the way they showed photos of common mistakes and how to fix them. The section on precious metal clays was very interesting and I am looking forward to trying PMC. I have been braiding wire ever since I got the book, and have received many compliments on the braided wire bracelet I made from the book. My one disappointment is that the authors' showed many beautiful styles in the gallery, but did not include instructions on those braiding/weaving techniques. I would recommend this book for anyone interesting in learing how to braid wire.
dissapointing.......2006-09-12
pros: elegant designs
very detailed instructions, step by step
cons: different designs but same technique. lack variety. there are many different types of woven chain, but not much in this book.
i thought this book was all about weaving, but i found a lot of precious matal clay stuff in the book. it can be good if that's what you are interested
Clever, clear and not for the beginner !.......2006-04-08
Let me start by saying that if you are interested in making jewelry. You should learn to solder! It is not that difficult, nor has to be that expensive. You can purchase a butane torch that is refilled from the same cans that refill lighters. Add to that the three different solders, hard, med and soft or easy. These are different melting temperatures solder needed. with the flux and one or two tools you have you can silver solder form $30 to under $100.U.S. It will expand your work and range more than anything else you can do. As to the book in question. First is if you want to learn these techniques but balk at spending the money for the silver wire. Just replace it with bare copper wire or brass wire from the hobby or home center. The bare copper wire sold in the electrical dept is called ground wire and they have a number of gauges.
The book is layed out with plenty of color pictures. This is nice for us visual learners. They also have complete descriptions
to go along with the pictures.
My biggest problem with the book,is to somebody that is flipping through the projects the material lists doesn't have the total length of any gauge wire needed. It is listed in the description paragraph at the start of the project instructions. It does make it harder for somebody that is new to weaving. Or does have multiple feet of the size wire on hand. The first 8 chapters are for weaving and then the metal clay finishes out the book consiting of one chapter 35 pages in length. Again the clay info is for the brand PMC clay, but they do tell you that if you use the other clay(Art Metal) you will have to adjust to suit the techniques and requirements of it. The quick clamp idea and use is great but it needed to be expanded to show mounting it to a board or pipe so it can be held in a vise or under the legs of the person weaving. I do like some of the projects with the mixed size wire and will replace some of the clay with metal inserts. I do own It.
Book Description
Modern and stylish, with glittering hints of color: how can jewelry that’s so easy to make be so elegant? These fabulous pieces use basic techniques, such as bending, wrapping, and making simple spirals, along with different types of wire that range from sterling silver to gold-filled copper. Guided by numerous photographs and easy-to-follow instructions, novice crafters can create simple flat shapes, move on to wrapped silhouettes, and then smoothly produce three-dimensional forms. The projects use commercially made chain, ribbon, or cording to showcase the variety of unique, one-of-a-kind wire shapes.
A Selection of the Crafter's Choice Book Club.

Good.......2007-09-23
For me it was just good because I did not learn more than I new already.
A Wonderful Book!.......2007-08-11
This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to explore jewelry design and creation! Frey's writing style is accessible and inviting and the photography is amazing. Frey tells readers who are just beginning, how to get started, complete with advice about what tools and materials to buy. She then offers a variety of projects, which will interest jewelry makers at various levels. This is an informative and inspirational book!
A disappointment..........2007-07-01
I usually am quite pleased with Lark jewelry books, but this one was a disappointment. While the instructions are clear and the photographs are helpful, the projects were so very easy and there was so much repetition between the projects this book is appropriate only for people who are just beginning wire craft. Of the twenty-one projects offered in this book, there are only six discrete jewelry types. The remaining projects are near copies of each other, rendered in slightly different shapes. Even for those who are just beginning with wire, there are much better introductions to the craft, such as Mark Lareau's All Wired Up: Wire Techniques for the Beadworker and Jewelry Maker (Beadwork How-To series).

An anthropologist-turned-believer, Stephen Huyler has dared to cross the line of objectivity and produce an introduction to Hindu religion that combines first-person detail with reverential admiration. Ten years in the making, Meeting God is the culmination of Huyler's travels throughout the Indian subcontinent, documenting in vivid photographs the panoply of Hindu devotional practices. What distinguishes Meeting God is its intimacy--through his glossy color photos and vignettes of individual Hindus practicing their rituals, he takes the reader into a world that pulses with the power of faith. The crux of the book is puja, daily devotional practices that anchor Hindus in the divinity of the universe, whether that person is a farmer, carpenter, engineer, or housewife. The remarkable array of different puja don't seem to interfere with modern life in India, and, as Huyler insists, actually enhance it. Given the vacuity of meaning in our own modern world, each page of Meeting God is an inspiration to deepen life. --Brian Bruya
Book Description
This beautiful book is the first to enable Western readers to witness devotional practices of the Hindu people. Hundreds of arresting photographs document the spirituality of common men and women in India, while definitions, descriptions, and captivating stories reveal the wide scope of their beliefs and practices. The book is a deeply satisfying introduction to the Hindu religion and its believers.

MEETING GOD, elements of Hindu religion.......2007-05-14
An excellent introduction to the variations of Hinduism, its practice, and most of all to the role it plays in the daily life of its members. This book covers something that one cannot get from reading for example the UPANISHADS, or the BHAGAVAD GITA, although all of it is helpful in the attempt to understand Hinduism.
Excellent pictures.
Ruth R. Robinson
Beautiful photographs and text depicting Hinduism.......2007-05-13
This book is one of the finest regarding detailed descriptions of the elaborate and elusive religion, Hinduism. The photographs are beautifully colorful, sensitively depicting the grace and quietness of the pujas (prayers) that Hindus practice in everyday life in India. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in India, Hinduism, or world culture.
A Personal Experience of Hindu Devotion.......2006-02-09
This is not the book for a reader who is looking for an understanding of the soaring intellectual complexity and nuance of Vedic philosophy.
This is not the book for a reader who is looking for a critique of Hindu fundamentalism, the social problems arising from the caste system.
But for the reader who is attracted to the beauty of a simple faith that permeates everyday life, Meeting God is the most beautifully written, moving book imaginable.
Huyler is a social anthropologist who is interested in the small artifacts of Indian life--clay pots, butter lamps, house idols. It is this interest in the small, the homely, the daily ritual, that informs this beautiful account of daily devotion in the lives of over a billion people on the Indian subcontinent.
Stephen Huyler's photography is exquisite, his descriptions moving and true, and his love for the culture he describes, obvious.
Let the people speak.......2005-04-20
I liked the photographic images and find it helpful that they are all in color. I was pleased to see a few pages of footnotes, although it seems more would have been helpful.
So, is this text cultural anthropology? It doesn't seem objective. It doesn't seem inquiring. It's exceedingly rose-colored. Without much explanation, Huyler seems to have embraced this kind of Hinduism, although, he indicates, not having forsaken his Christianity. I don't recall his explaining how he combines the two.
The kind of Hinduism he describes seems fundamentalistic even as it tolerates many gods. I found no mention of Vedanta, of any philosophical issues open within Hinduism. As Huyler describes how particular Hindus perform their devotions, was there mention anywhere of what these people had to say about their devotions and their gods, in what way (according to them, not Huyler) it helps them and in what way it is real to them. It seemed just Huyler's voice and no nuances. Amidst such apparent simplemindedness, it is hard to fathom the Upanishads, incredible to consider that Buddha once taught here and impossible to imagine that no so long agao Jiddu Krishnamurti emerged from this land.
What's especially unclear is whether devotional Hinduism is as limited in dimensions (despite many gods) as Huyler presents it. Much of that seems like it could be due to his own filter. Huyler has too much to say and shares too little of what his subjects would say.
Brilliant peek into that enigma of enigmas: Hinduism, India.......2003-12-23
This book is brilliant and moving beyond words. Mr. Huyler is one of the few Western scholars to have faithfully, respectfully, objectively captured the essence of Hinduism - no mean feat - and made it accessible to a non-Indian audience. Every time I look at the beautiful photographs in this book I want to cry. The stories about the extraordinary faith of ordinary Hindus from all backgrounds are colourful, moving and the photos are stunning. A book that truly does justice to Hinduism and to Mother India.
