Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Very good book........2007-01-27
In this book, everything is in the pictures and the floorplans that can give you numerous original ideas if you plan to build a town house.
Text is very limited though as are techincal informations.
Interesting look at all the different types of cities and the houses that exists within them.......2006-02-07
This book features the many different types of houses that exist in the many different cities throughout the world. As broad as the range of houses that are featured in this book, so too are the conditions of each cityscape that it is built on. It is interesting how the term "city houses" evokes an image of a dwelling squeezed into a dense urban plot, but that is not always the case. Some houses in cities such as San Francisco or Vienna seem to enjoy a space that is only possible in a suburban context. Despite all the differences of the houses featured, they all deal with the issue of privacy and fitting in or out of the urban context that exists already.
Some of the more interesting projects include House H by Sugiura Office and House in Rue Galvani by Christian Pottgiesser.

Book Description
Perfect for artists looking for ways to be more creative with their watercolor paintings, Watercolour Plus demonstrates how to combine watercolor with other media such as pen and ink, pastel, colored pencil, water-soluble pencil, metallic paints, gouache and collage.
Each chapter, written by a different successful artist, begins with a short step-by-step introduction to the techniques each medium requires, complete with practical exercises and project ideas for readers to try on their own.
This is followed by a series of gallery pages showcasing work from a number of contemporary artists. Each one is an invaluable source of ideas that amateurs can incorporate into their own work.
The result is a thoroughly practical and inspiring introduction to painting in mixed media--one of the most rapidly growing areas of interest to amateur artists.

Inspiration that I needed.......2007-08-09
This book has wonderful pictures and instructions all the way through for techniques I want to try, but the section on Watercolor plus Textures inspired me to get to work and actually do it. I love this little book and think every new watercolorist needs it in his/her library.
not what i expected.......2007-07-20
i bought this book because i think balkwill"s watercolors are wonderful. however, there is not one single painting or demo in this book i think is worth looking at. how can 1 artist"s work be so different. i have another book of his that i love. this one is terrible! i am glad i did not pay much for it.

Art in Latin America: The Modern Era, 1820-1980
ASIN: 0292791186 |
Book Description
"This is a very important and exciting book, one whose illustrations alone deserve to be seen. Bringing them together with these essays is a publication that is long overdue, one that will finally be available to North American audiences for both the generalist and the specialist, the artist and the writer."
Michele M. Penhall, specialist in the history of Latin American photography
FotoFest 1992, a major festival of international photography, brought Latin American photography into focus for a wide audience. Offering a diverse selection of photographers, countries, artistic movements, and subject matter, the show revealed a photographic tradition rich in history and creativity.
Drawing from the more than 1,000 images exhibited by FotoFest, this book documents the work of fifty-two photographers from ten countries. The photographs range from the opening of the Brazilian frontier in the 1880s to a secret archive of documentary images from El Salvador's recent civil war to works of specifically aesthetic intent. Many of the photographs appear here in print for the first time.
Watriss's opening essay provides the curatorial overview for the book. Lois Zamora examines the roots of visual image-making in Latin American cultures. Boris Kossoy addresses the history of Latin American photography through the nineteenth century, while Fernando Castro covers the contemporary scene. With its compelling images and English-Spanish text, this book will serve as a benchmark for future studies of photography in Latin America.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful pictures.......2005-04-16
But this isn't what I thought it was going to be. I guess I shouldn't rate it down for that though.
This is a huge, very gorgeous, very heavy book of photography by regional artists and photographic journalists. The pictures are divided up by countries and by the artists. There is contemporary photography, "artsy" stuff I should say, but then there are also vintage prints and photographs of just everyday life and events in Central America.
Why I was disappointed...I initially got this book because I was under the impression that there would be a lot of photographs, photographic journalism, documenting the civil wars in Guatemala and El Salvador. There is very little of that in this book. So I don't recommend that you buy this book if that is what you are looking for. There is nothing about the war in Guatemala, and there is one very small section on the civil war of El Salvador with a few pages of photos, but I didn't find it to be very satisfying or moving. It wasn't worth it for just a few pages. Luckily I checked the book out from a library and didn't buy it outright.
This is no doubt a great book, it just wasn't what I was looking for. I won't judge it on that though. If you are looking for photographs and journalism from the civil war in El Salvador I highly recommend "El Salvador" by Larry Towell.
EXCELENTE!!!!!!.......1998-10-23
Una revisión muy completa de la fotografía Latinoamericana, la reflexión de los grandes estudiosos y los textos son excelentes.

In the first volume of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita, Daisuke Ido discovers a badly damaged cyborg in the trash heap beneath the floating city of Tiphares, which he rebuilds and names Alita. She has no memory of her previous life, but when she is drawn into a battle with the monster Makaku, Alita realizes that she must uncover the dark secrets of her past.
Kishiro's story is much more than a science-fiction adventure. Woven into the violent, roller-coaster plot is a strand of philosophical speculation. Battle Angel Alita takes us to a world where technology blurs the boundaries between human and machine, begging the question "What makes us who we are?"
Book Description
Her spirit crushed over the loss of Hugo, Alita runs away from Doc Ido and the life she's built in the Scrapyard to become a challenger in motorball, a combat-like game that pits cyborg competitors against each other. As they race through the obstacle course, fighting for the ball, Alita learns her foes will do anything to win, and that losers often don't live to talk about their defeat.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
This seems to be a bit more along the lines of 2000AD or even Heavy Metal, as far as the style of story goes.
A scientist and mad mutant/robot bounty hunter finds a cyborg head, and decides to repair it by way of adding a new body a bit at a time.
Along the way they run into the scariest sewer and poo dwelling brain sucking mutant robot madman of them all, the one other hunters are too scared to face.
Add in a cute brave dog and you are set.
My first time.......2006-07-09
One of the fist mangas I ever read.
It's about a girl named Alita who is half robot and half human. Dr. Ido finds her in a scrapyard and fixes her up, she doesn't really remember anything about her past, and they both discover how strong she is. Many fights, great drawings
It's a great book, I am now on book 9.
Don't hesitate........2006-03-04
Someone might have told you that Battle Angel, despite its corny title, is one of greatest of modern mangas.
It is one of the greatest graphic novels, ever.
I've seen very few artists with so much raw skill put equal effort into a deep and complex story.
Start at 'Last Order' if you will, but you'll end up wanting more.
Battle Angel Alita rocks.......2006-01-30
Both the story and action in this manga are fantastic and at times touching. I read the whole series and loved every volume.
Moving.......2005-09-08
This manga was one of the few series that were able to cut to the core of me. The world our main character Gally lives in is a cold and dangerous place where anyone you care for could die at anytime. Fighting loneliness and fear she struggles to find meaning in her life. I think anybody that reads this book will understand what it feels to live in a bleak world full of terrible things that you just can't understand. We've all been there...where the world seems to loom over you and you just want to give up. Gally is an android but just as human as you and me. At times she wants to give up...but she will inspire her readers by getting up once again to face the dark world she lives in. The art is a bit grimy and messier than the newer mangas, but it fits the atmosphere of the story perfectly. You can even see it improving with each volume. This is the best manga I have read to date. And I highly recommend it to anyone that is willing to look at the world in a honest light.

Competition vs. a home.......2005-05-23
The plot: Dr Ito is searching for runaway Alita the scrapheap, a city built on, you guessed it, a scrapheap, in the future. He finally finds her rising fast in a violent sport called motorball. The sport involves racing through an obstical course and gaining control of a bowling ball sized goal - the motorball. To get control of the motorball or just to impress fans competitors must fight one another during the races, often with fatal results. Alita loves the sport, but has begun to realize, after only 2 weeks away from her friend, Ito, that she misses him.
The plot here is nice in that there is enough of it, but not so good in that this book is very much half of a story with Angel of Victory being the second half. This goes for minor characters, like Alita's trainer who is an ex racer and has a history with many of the people at the track, as well as for Alita and her goal of being the best and going to the top. This is kind of a bummer, because unlike this book, which has a good bit of story taking place on the street, Angel of Victory is almost all fights and less plot. To summarize, this book is good, but the next book is not as good and you will have to read that one to find out how this one ends.
The graphics are all black and white and are very well done in a realistic style. Also a strength in this book and this series is that the visual as opposed to what you read does a lot to move the story along. Especially the little mind games that Alita and Ito play with one another as they pretend not to know each other are shown all in visuals and not in writing. So there is some amount of subtlety here.
I recommend this book to fans of the genre. It has excellent graphics and a fine plot. If you read it you will also want to read Angel of Victory, where the stories than start here are finished.
Death's Dark Angel.......2003-01-22
In this, the third volume in the series, Alita has left Doc Ido's care in the emotional backlash from the death of Hugo. Doc has begun a quest to find the beautiful cyborg that has distracted him completely from his regular business. As a result the series opens with Doc wandering the streets, only finding that Alita has become a motorball player. This is a vicious competitive game, reminiscent of Rollerball, which at first seems completely unlike the Alita of 'Tears of an Angel.'
At first, as we read about Alita's determined climb through the ranks, we believe that this change is an expression of Alita's anger and pain over the death of her friend. But gradually it becomes clear that this is a quest for self. When Alita is using the secrets of 'panzer kunst,' the cyborg battle art, there are moments when she almost remembers her true identity. And there is no shortage of violent, beautifully choreographed battle scenes as Alita chased the elusive motorball.
Her need for battles that stretch her to the fullest will eventually drive her to challenge the undisputed best of the motorballers, Jashugan. Jashugan is hardly a villain, but a disciplined use of 'chi.' His willingness to treat Alita seriously foils Doc Ido's plans to use Jashugan bring Alita to what he believes are her 'senses.' Instead she becomes even more embroiled in the excitement of the game not that conquering Jashugan has become a goal.
On the surface, this manga would appear to be one of the 'beautiful but deadly female superhero' genre. But Yukito Kishiro persists in surprising us with new facets of Alita's personality, a delightful supporting cast, and antagonists of the stature of Jashugan. One can sense that bigger issues are in play and that Alita's future still contains many unexpected twists.
Once again I am amazed at the quality of the art in Kushiro's efforts. Graphically attractive, compositionally strong, and a whole host of other superlatives are merely descriptive. For three volumes I've been treated to a unique artistic style that sets this above many manga that, inexplicably, enjoy more popularity. If you don't believe me, see for yourself.
A good continuation, although not as good a masterpiece..........2001-11-08
Since "Killing Angel" and "Angel of Victory" are considered a two-part story, this review will be about both of them.
The third volume in "Battle Angel Alita", "Killing Angel", continues Yukito Kishiro's engaging and engrossing story about Alita, the cyborg who has no memories of her past yet memory of a powerful fighting technique. After the tragic events in "Tears of an Angel", Alita runs away to become a contestant in the terrible sport of motorball. Ido, heartbroken by her leaving him, is determined to get her back.
This story seems good on paper, but unfortunately, Kishiro made the story drawn out in the third volume. The first few parts of "Killing Angel" were excellent, but the next stream of parts could've been done in a shorter amount of time and space. That's not to say that "Killing Angel" isn't good, but parts of it could've had their pace quickened a little. In a way, however, this volume can be seen as the prelude to the much better fourth volume, "Angel of Victory".
"Angel of Victory" can also probably be seen as drawn out, but it's far less obvious. The story in this volume still deals with Alita's motorball obsession, but parts of the story return the plot to the main point of the first two volumes: Alita searching for her past. While "Killing Angel" and "Angel of Victory" are a two-part series, I see "Angel of Victory" as the better of the two because of its return to the reason why we fell in love with "Battle Angel Alita" in the first place.
All in all, these two volumes make a good continuation of the first two volumes, but they are sadly a step down in storytelling quality. Maybe if "Killing Angel" and "Angel of Victory" had been made into a single volume, they would've been seen in a better light. But that's not to say that the light of these two volumes is dim...
This is sooooo drawn-out!.......2001-08-26
This is one book out of a two-book-long sports story about a screwed up game where people get killed for no apparent reason other than as an excuse to show blood-n-guts scenes. Alita behaves illogically, there doesn't seem to be a point to anything, and when it's all over after the second book nothing seems to have happened. A big waste of whatever goes into it.
The Best Kind of Angel-.......2000-03-09
The novel is by far one of the best books that I have ever read. The plot was incredible, even better than the movies or even the first 2 books. The Book seems to not let the reader go until he/she has read the whole novel. Yukito Kishiro is a god and is the best at what he does. I garrantee you will not be dissapionted if you buy this.
