Book Description
Contemporary Asian Pools and Gardens showcases the continent's most spectacular modern gardens and water features. Private swimming pools and gardens have increasingly become an integral part of modern living spaces and you don't necessarily have to live in a house to have one. This book in the Contemporary Asian Designs series includes special chapters on walkways, lighting, fences, gates and roof gardens, as well as the latest in infinity, lap, communal, plunge pool and rooftop pools, displaying some of the most sought-after designs in the region.
Customer Reviews:
Have Seen Better.......2007-08-17
Although beautifully photographed and living up to its title of "Contemporary" (was printed in 2005), I have seen better pools and gardens in Asia (having lived there for 10 years). I felt the author/editor needed to have dug a little more deeply to find more enchanted gardens, of which there are many throughout the region. Overall, it didn't inspire me, a bit boring and the colour of the photographs is a bit bleached out.
Saddened.......2005-09-30
I was disappointed that so many of the photos were taken at the same locations and used thoughout the book - I would have preferred to see additional sites. I was very excited by the cover photo but I'm afraid that I was left very ho-hum by the end of the book, not only by the duplicates, but even the chosen sites were not as dazzling as I imagined they would be from that part of the world. I had planned to purchase other books in this series but now that is very doubtful.
Asians Just Seem to do Pools Better.......2005-08-18
I don't know why, but it seems that the Asian, and particularly the tropical Asian artechiture has a much better understanding of the use of water, expecially flowing water than we do in this country. Particularly they seem to have a sense of combining water with stone and wood that gives a serene look often missing in the usual US designs.
This is a spectacular picture book of mostly small pools incorporated into the private garden of a house. They are mostly located in Bali, Singapore and Thailand. The architecture of the houses that go with these pools, often just an outside porch is all you can see, reflect the climate of these tropical locations.
As with all such books, this is an idea book that first is pleasing to the eye, and second can be used in the design of the new house you are working on.

Anyone will love this book!.......2001-11-17
This is a wonderful, entertaining book! The graphics of actual World War II Postcards are fabulous!!! You will enjoy it from the minute you pick it up till you turn the very last page. The Clairday's give us a bird's eye view of the impact on the soldiers and their families during World War II. In a colorful real way, you are transported back in time while reading the notes to family, friends and loved ones. The images on those cards also speak to the history of the time. Anyone of any age can appreciate this "fun to read" book. It is a "must have" and a "great gift" for the holidays.
A unique experience.......2001-11-06
As one who grew up in the UK during World War II, "Postcards from World War II" provides an unexpected insight into what conditions were like in America. It never occurred to me that anyone outside Europe had price controls, food rationing and other restrictions. The text is not just a chronicle of events, it complements the numerous evocative postcards to give the reader a unique experience. Many are difficult-to-read scribbles, but are transcribed at the back so their all-important words can be read with ease. The publishers have provided high quality reproductions with unexpected clarity. This is a fine book.

Customer Reviews:
This book has been some of my favorite reading!.......2003-04-08
After I bought a used A2E, I bought this book to substitute for the owner's manual. I thought I would be using it as an occasional reference and be done with it. I was wrong. This is a very concise and informative guide to photography for both beginners as well as advanced amateurs and semi-pros. Even though I've used Canon SLR's for the last 22 years (along with my large format equipment) and have taught photography at the college level, I found that this book was a valuable refresher of 35mm skills as well as a helpful alternative to the owner's manual.
Excellent camera manual........2001-08-04
Is far more in depth than the manual that you get with the camera when you purchase it. Will teach you what everything on your camera does and how to do it. It is also a great resource to read if thinking about buying the camera, before making the investment. I have the A2 and enjoy it thoroughly. It compares well with much more expensive cameras.
I give this manual a thumbs up!.......2000-06-13
I found this book to be a great deal better than the manual that accompanied my EOS A2. It's clear, concise, easy to read, understand and a great book for the amateur or the professional. I like the way this book delved into specific areas and gave recommendations and tips for particular situations. For cameras like the EOS A2, manuals like this are essential for understanding its features and to make photography meaningful and rewarding. My only criticism would be the lack of an index. I've been involved in photography for 25 years and rate myself as an intermediate to advanced.
A Must Have If You Own This Camera or the EOS 5.......2000-04-01
Not only does this expand on the manual, it gives additional information. Elaborates on many functions the manual only touched on as well as mentioned others the manual ignored. Offers extensive information on lenses, flashes and other accessories. The EOS 5 is the international version of this camera and this book is entirely compatible with it as well (that is the camera I own). Buy it, you won't be sorry (even if you think you already "know" your camera).
Canon Eos A2E/A2 (Magic Lantern Guides Series) (P-1-M38F3).......2000-01-20
This book also covers the Canon EOS 5 which is what I have. This book filled in the blanks or gave reasons why cerain things work the way they do. It also gave recomendations and sugestions from professionals who have used the camera. I have used single lens reflex cameras since 1954. I rate myself as an advanced amature photographer.

Great quick projects.......2007-01-03
Eleanor Burns is one of my favorite quilt authors. Not only is everything explained well but good illustrations are used to guide one if a problem does arise.
I have just finished doing a quick project from this book. It is called Cold Hands, Warm Heart. Now, if I should need a special gift for someone I have it. I am getting ready to work on another project from this book ASAP.

If you like country..................2006-10-05
then this is a book for you. The book runs 207 pages not including the many templates. It contains instructions for tree decorations, stockings, tablerunners, placemats, pillows, 7 wallhangings, 3 quilts, 4 projects for children and even a christmas jacket for Fido! Twenty-eight projects in all. However, because I don't do country, there is only one project I would consider doing. I ordered this book through the mail and had I seen it at a bookstore I wouldn't have gotten it. I gave it 3 stars because I'm sure that many of you country quilters would find it appealing.
Note: I've decided to give it 4 stars!
Excellent Book.......2006-08-15
I always enjoy using the patterns by Eleanor Burns. They are very explicit and easy to follow, especially for beginners. The directions and pictures really make it easy for quilters.

Excellent Stocking Pattern.......2001-08-15
If you're looking for an easy, generous-sized stocking pattern, this book is perfect for you. It is a very easy courthouse step pattern. Great tree skirt pattern, too. I'm not a big applique person, but if you like them, there are many good applique patterns and projects. Great book. Good directions. Excellent patterns!

This is a great book for beginner quilters and experienced quilters. As usual, Eleanor burns gives excellent directions, and her method is above all. It is nice to make this in the traditional Christmas greens and also in florals for spring.

Book Description
Santa's elves are tired of being third-rate drones in his oppressive sweatshop. The labor is backbreaking and the greedy Santa and his crotchety CFO, Mrs. Claus, have worn their patience thin. They're mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore. In this hilarious poke at modern Christmas mythology, Santa's not-so-cheery little toy-makers act more like disgruntled postal workers when they plot to overthrow their boss, smash the factory, and turn the reindeer into reindeer stew. There'll be nothing under the tree for one and all, unless little children agree to help crush their portly oppressors with a little merry activism. Subversive and dark, but also fun and cathartic, this illustrated workplace satire will bring the gift of ho-ho-ho to any disaffected office worker.

Burn it Down! Loved it........2006-07-22
I thought it might be a little strange to order this book during the summer, but hey Christmas in July why not? Although, it's not quite what I expected, I surprisingly got a big kick out of this mean-spirited little book I think due to my own aversion to Christmas festivities.
Particularly well done was the demise of the other reindeer at Rudolph's hands:
"And all the reindeer games at which Rudolph could never play,
He'll be the one who's laughing and name calling Christmas Day."
The illustration that accompanies it is very well done and really sick-minded.
If you like books that are a little out there, and convey a sick sense of humor, then you can't go wrong here. I thought it was really audacious.
Burn, "Burn, Christmas! Burn!!" Burn!!.......2006-07-18
While I sympathize with the anti-consumerism ideals behind it, this book is just poorly done. The rhyming scheme is stilted and forced, it's overly wordy, and the narrative is disjointed. It's bad, folks. This book is bad. As Dorothy Parker said, "This book should not be set aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force." Do yourself and those Chinese printers a favor: suppress your consumerist tendencies! DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! May it go out of print immediately. Amen.
Chrismas Inferno (Burn the Mutha' Down).......2004-11-30
Dark and angry, and yet hysterically funny, Brian Gage and Jeff Peterson have created a scathing commentary of Christmas that looks like a children's picture book.
Bippy the Elf (whose real name is Eugene Vladimir Von Triton Krinkeltoot), gives us a rhyming tour of Santa's famous "workshop" where the head CEO himself forces the elves to work night and day and where they never get any benefits in return, ("Last year reindeer droppings were the bonus to the staff.") all so that YOU can have a Merry Christmas.
So this year, Bippy and the elves decide to stage an Elven Revolution to get out of Santa's Sweatshop and are planning to come right into YOUR HOME!
Anyone who has overloaded on Christmas marketing and the exploitation of the worldwide labor force will love this little book, even if the symbolism is a bit obvious.
I would recommend one for everyone on your Christmas list...but it is printed in China...
Burn, Christmas, Burn!!!
Brian Gage is Crazy - So is this Book!.......2004-11-12
Finally! A book that sinks it's teeth into the glitter of Christmas and rips out its heart! It's really funny and really dark. The author is a sick person, and I mean that as a compliment. Christmas has deserved this kind of send up for some time, and the elves in this book are just the ones to do it! I haven't laughed at a book this much since Get Your War On! I highly recommened this twisted Christmas tale.

Book Description
Humorous color photos of animals are cleverly combined with inspirational, life-affirming phrases that carry special meaning for the Christmas holidays. The book's many examples of wit and wisdom, collected here by Tom Burns, but written by people from all walks of life, reflect the human experience in all its variety. Each has special application to the spirit of sharing and togetherness that defines the Christmas season. A typically apt entry describes the holiday season with the words . . . it's the warmth that comes to our hearts when the Christmas spirit returns again. This inspiring little book can serve as a special stocking stuffer for the holiday, or as a super-deluxe Christmas card for very special recipients.
