Book Description
In their third book, authors/designers Karen Witynski and Joe P. Carr forage through the mountains of Mexico and the deserts of the American Southwest in celebration of the strength and wonder of adobe design style. From its humble beginnings to its present-day renaissance, Casa Adobe unearths the homes, haciendas, and holiday getaways that have blended handcrafted details, natural materials, and cross-cultural furnishings to express the elegant simplicity of adobe living. Stunning photographs reveal the textures of both traditional and modern homes and the unique marriages between adobe's ancient simplicity and homeowners' eclectic global treasures. The interior design elements-hand-wrought iron chandeliers, punched tin and copper sconces, painted Mexican-country furniture, early American antiques, Navajo textiles, African folk art, contemporary paintings, New Mexican retablos and Pueblo pottery-are at happy communion inside the comfortable surrounds of adobe. Award-winning authors of The New Hacienda and Mexican Country Style Karen Witynski and Joe P. Carr were awarded the spring 2000 Pluma de Plata (Silver Pen) from Mexico's Ministry of Tourism. They have been at the forefront of the Mexican design movement for over twenty-five years as designers, importers, and antique dealers. Based in Austin, Texas, Witynski and Carr are the owners of Texture Antiques, a gallery specializing in Mexican furniture, architectural elements, contemporary art, and accents. Individually, Witynski writes on home and garden design for national publications, including This Old House magazine, and Carr designs furniture from recycled Mexican wood. Together, they divide their time between their Austin, Texas home and the Yucatan Hacienda. a> Please visit the author's website for more information on this wonderful book.Customer Reviews:

Book Review--New Mexico Magazine.......2002-06-09
The book documents the evolution of adobe from its historic past to its most modern applications, including interior details and architectural elements. The authors chose well the buildings they use as examples for their premise that "adobe is an old tradition with a new future," the recurring theme of the book.

Product Description
It's the Process, Not the Product. Primary Art is the newest book in award-winning author MaryAnn Kohl's art series, with more than 100 projects that offer amazing results to delight and teach children ages 5 to 8. A unique characteristic of Primary Art is that each art experience has three parts; it is introduced by a simple activity, progresses to a more experienced level, and finishes with a more intricate primary art experience. With this book, teachers, parents, after-school caregivers, and anyone working with children will encourage creativity, promote the process of art exploration, and appreciate the significance of the resulting art. Activities are sure to please, such as "Shimmer Paint," painting on aluminum foil with tempera and dish detergent, "Squeezy Batik," a batik resist using a flour-water mixture and watercolors, "Crinkle Scruncher," crinkled paper formed into sculptures, and "Jellie Dangles," ornaments made with gelatin! Key features of this book: Activities are presented from quick-and-easy to multifaceted. Three-part projects offer exploration of the qualities and properties of art materials, an introductory art experience, and a third project that builds upon the introduction. Everyday materials are listed to capture the imagination of primary children. Each individual's artwork will reflect individual creativity, not a pre-made sample or mock-up. All projects have icons that designate time requirements, adult involvement, materials, and experience level for artists. Ages 4-8

The legendary jazz illustrator finally gets the coffee-table treatment. Fantagraphics Books is proud to publish the coffee-table style art book accompanying the traveling Arnold Roth exhibition celebrating 50 years of cartooning. The exhibit will showcase almost 100 pieces of Roth's work, drawn over the last 50 years, and will travel to approximately ten venues throughout the United States and Europe from September 2000 through 2004.Roth is one of the most successful cartoonists of the second half of the 20th century, whose work has appeared in Playboy, Esquire, Time, National Lampoon, the Saturday Evening Post, Sports Illustrated, Punch, Premiere, the Nation, Mother Jones, Harper's, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, TV Guide, Smithsonian, and many other national magazines. He is the creator of the classic newspaper strip Poor Arnold's Almanac (collected in 1999 by Fantagraphics), and he is perhaps best-remembered for the numerous album covers he illustrated for jazz great Dave Brubek. Roth was also a regular artist in Harvey Kurtzman's three post-Mad humor magazines, Trump, Humbug, and Help!.
The exhibition catalogue is printed in an oversized format and features both black-and-white cartoons and strips and an abundance of Roth's gorgeous, vivid watercolor cartoon paintings, all of which appeared in disparate magazines over the years and none of which are readily available to collectors and fans.
