Book Description
Bauhaus has established itself with designers and architects as a standard work and the most comprehensive collection of documents and pictoral material ever published on this famous school of design.
Documents in Bauhaus are taken from a wide array of sources--public manifestos, private letters, internal memoranda, jotted-down conversations, minutes of board and faculty meetigs, sketches and schemata, excerpts from speeches and books, newspaper and magazine articles, Nazi Polemics, official German government documents, court proceedings, budgets, and curricula.
The illustrations include architectural plans and realizations, craft and industrial model designs (furniture, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, stained glass, typography, wallpaper), sculpture, paintings, drawings, etchings, woodcuts, posters, programs, advertising brochures, stage settings, and formal portraits of such Bauhaus Masters as Walter Gropius, Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Josef Albers, Hebert Bayer, Marcel Breuer, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Very good.......2007-03-09
This book has been taken out of the Library several times since I purchased it for our collection in Jan. My hobby is painting, and I thought the directions and examples were well written and illustrated. A very good book for the beginner to intermediate watercolor enthusiast.
Great inspiration!.......2007-01-06
Photos are wonderful, the demos really help one to see how to get from your photo to a painting - to see from both the photographer's eye and the painter's eye. For those of you that sometimes get stuck in the detail of the photo and want to loosen up - this is a very helpful demonstration. A wonderful kickstart if you're having a "block" too - you do WANT to paint from these photos! Happy Painting!

I really should ask for my money back on this book....it was poorly written, vague in description, the cover is great and appears appealing....this is not worth the price of admission.
Sorry.!!

Book Description
The vibrant colors and imaginative compositions that characterize Janet Whittle's paintings are showcased in this charming collection of watercolors. Whittle explains her evocative use of color in accompanying passages and details the numerous creative techniques she employs for capturing the beauty of flowers, including negative painting, masking, lifting out, and glazing. Novice painters and experienced artists alike will benefit from a series of instructional step-by-step projects and photographs. Special tips are also provided on how to capture light and shadow and how to create an overall harmony within a piece.
Customer Reviews:
Watercolor techniques for floral subjects.......2007-09-29
If you like painting floral subjects, Janet Whittle's method may be of interest to you.
Starting with masked subject areas and dropping in pure colors, Whittle creates a lively, mottled background and then goes on to paint negative spaces around leaves and background flowers. This gives the effect of distant leaves and petals in shadow. Then the main flowers are painted in, dropping colors into the center, shadowing petals and adding detail to stamens, pistils and other structures.
The good thing about this technique is it makes effective bouquet subjects. The bad thing is that the technique leads to somewhat of a sameness to every painting. In this book, the author adds vases, pots and other subjects to the still life, which helps. If you have this book, you probably don't need any of the others as this one is more comprehensive. I don't feel inspired to copy this technique, but there are worthwhile tips to absorb in handling iris especially.

Lake George Reflections: Island History and Lore

Book Description
For more than a decade before World War I, Alfred Stieglitz lent much of his formidable energy to his public career as an editor, publisher, proselytizer, and art dealer. In the 1920s and 30s, he turned again to his own photography, exploring his personal world at Lake George, in the Adirondack mountains of New York, where he spent summers at a family farmhouse. He photographed the things around him--the landscape, the clouds overhead, the intimate life he led with family and friends, including Georgia O'Keefe, Waldo Frank, and Paul Rosenfeld. This body of work, radical and private, is the essential aspect of Stieglitz's achievement as a photographer, and has nowhere else been published as a coherent whole.
Customer Reviews:
The Private Stieglitz.......2000-03-16
The name Stieglitz conjures up many images that helped define modern photography. With his publications of Camera Notes and Camera Work, numerous awards, and a tenacious drive to promote photography as a serious art, Alfred Stieglitz shaped our awareness of photography like no other. Although earlier photographs such as The Steerage, The Hand of Man, Spring Showers, The Terminal and others are indelibly linked to Stieglitz, it is his later work that is just as important to this oeuvre. With the publication of "Stieglitz at Lake George" we see a man content with his craft, to the point where some of the images have a snapshot quality, like vacation pictures taken by a master seer. The images show Stieglitz relaxed yet still in control, as he records the surroundings at Lake George. Both formal and informal, the portraits taken of O'Keeffe are some of Stieglitz's strongest depictions of the artist. Ellen Koeniger and Rebecca Strand elicit both playful and erotic poses for the camera, while others are photographed chatting, playing, or simply wandering around the grounds of Lake George. Many will see the photographs in direct contrast to Stieglitz's urban images. Although this is apparent in most of the photographs, the images of poplar trees stand out like the skyscrapers Stieglitz photographed later in his career. Even the elegant automobile found on the last page is clearly an urban image - a reminder that eventually one must leave Lake George and its quiet calm, for the city further down the road.

2nd in Maeda's La Blue Girl Series.......2005-03-28
Black and white adult graphic novel. "Erotic Grotesque" style Japanese Manga. (Labeled: "Graphic Novel/Erotic/Horror/Manga"; "ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR CHILDREN").
Similar to the Maeda's Demon Invasion books. This series was turned into a Japanese animation film.
Most of the main characters return in this sequel. The returning characters include: Miko, a ninja and university student, Miko's sister Miyu, Miko's small ninja friend Nin Nin, and tentacled demons.
In this book, Miko meets a new enemy, the "Suzukasan Style Ninja Clan." If this clan can defeat Miko, they will gain control of the demons and rule earth. The Suzukasan Clan try to overcome Miko by using sex to weaken her.
This strange book, like its predecessor, is filled with rape, aliens, and violence. The series is subjectively better than his Demon Invasion series, though still hindered by being in black in white. Overall, the characters are well drawn, have actual personalities, and the book has a strong, though sometimes strange plot.
