Book Description
Light on words, heavy on pictures, this totally user-friendly how-to book can turn an absolute beginner of any age, who has never held a paintbrush before, into a productive and proud watercolor painter. Basics open the book, as readers are shown the range of watercolors and how to mix them. Then simple wash techniques and the painting of light and shadows are presented. Next, step-by-step demonstrations show how to paint separate features of a still life or landscape-fruit, vegetables, flowers, trees, and skies-then how to combine these elements into lovely watercolor paintings.Customer Reviews:

Mr. Cranshaw makes it really simple.......2001-02-05
Mr. Cranshaw's book is full of examples on which you can learn, copy and base your own outdoor and studio painting. His sense of fun is never far away. I have other books from this author and I did some really great paintings of cattle immediately and easily after reading and trying his methods. If you want to simplify and improve your watercolor, get some good techniques for plein-air (outdoors) work, I can't recommend this book enough.

Although they look loose and spontaneous, each painting is actually a well-planned, thoughtfully conceived celebration of the pure beauty of transparent watercolor. In this book, Burt shares his secrets step by step.In the first three chapters, Burt takes you through the entire painting process, exploring everything from concept to design principles and color schemes. You'll work from light to dark in four stages, painting around saved color and saved whites on dry paper. Liquid Assets: A History of New York City's Water System
Diane Galusha Manufacturer: Harbor Hill Books ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 193009843X |
Book Description
The New York City water system is, by every measure, an engineering marvel. Delivering 1.2 billion gallons of water each day to more than nine million people, it is a complex network of reservoirs stretched out over a vast upstate region and connected by a web of subterranean aqueducts to rival the aqueducts of the ancient Romans. The system, so pivotal to the development of the nation's largest city and its northern suburbs, was realized over the past century and a half, and indeed is still being built beneath the subways and skyscrapers of New York. But clean, abundant water has not come without peril and pain. Thousands of people were forced to relinquish their homes in dozens of communities leveled to make way for the reservoirs of the Croton, Catskill, and Delaware Supplies. Hundreds of workers died building the tunnels and dams; countless more were injured. The story of the New York water system is one of genius and daring, sacrifice and tragedy. It is peopled with visionaries, scoundrels and "the little men with the picks and shovels" who tore away mountains and built new ones to capture the sweet essence of wild rivers far from the Big Apple's teeming streets.

Accomplished!.......2001-06-03
New York City, the reservoirs in upstate New York, the lands that were taken to build the reservoirs, and the communities and lands surrounding them now are a hot topic. Ms Galusha's exceptional book takes you beyond the heated arguments to see just what was involved in the planning, engineering, and building of the reservoirs. The undertakings were nothing short of an engineering marvel. This tale of scandal, heartbreak, skill and resilience is expertly told with extensive research, photos, maps and a lot of heart.
"Liquid Assets" the history of a masterpiece........2000-07-04
"Liquid Assets" is well illustrated with historical photographs, drawings and maps. It is highly recommended, especially for those interested in the history of NYC, engineering, or urban studies, and fans of the historic Croton, Catskill and Deleware Aqueducts. The book also gives a context to the current controversies over filtration and watershed protection for NYC's water system.

The 2007 Report on Antiseptic First Aid Liquids: World Market Segmentation by City
Philip M. Parker Manufacturer: ICON Group International, Inc. ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0497712261 Release Date: 2006-11-13 |
Book Description
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a “borderless world”, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "antiseptic first aid liquids" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

Book Description
Daniel Jackson's successful decoding of the ancient Stargate hieroglyphics opened the inter-dimensional doorway to thousands of alien worlds. SG-1 leads the USAF effort to establish alliances with other races and find new technologies to be used against the ever present threat of the Goa'uld. Posing as the mythological gods, these parasitic creatures subjugate the races of the universe under their self-serving banners, destroying those who would stand against them. Jack has been captured by the Goa'uld and his very memories may be used against the SGC in an all out alien invasion. The SG-1 team must find a way to infiltrate a planet of enemies mobilizing for war to rescue their fallen leader.Customer Reviews:
