Book Description
US American landscape designer Kathryn Gustafson has earned an outstanding international reputation. The recently opened Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, London, is the latest in a long list of acclaimed projects realised together with her partners Gustafson Porter (London) and Gustafson Guthrie Nichol (Seattle), including the Arthur Ross Terrace of the American Museum of Natural History (New York), Chicago’s New Millenium Garden, the Great Glass House interior (Wales), the Amsterdam Westergasfabriek park and the Garden of Forgiveness in Beirut.
The 30 international projects portrayed in Moving Horizons exemplify Gustafson’s distinctive and highly artistic style, characterised by sensual, sculptural forms, and her cooperation with architects such as Norman Foster, Ian Ritchie, Mecanoo, Jean-Paul Viguier and Renzo Piano.
Recognition of the significance of her work has also come in the form of numerous awards,
including the Chrysler Design Award, and selection for New York MoMA’s forthcoming
exhibition “Groundswell. Constructing the Contemporary Landscape”.

Multifaceted.......2006-11-10
This book not only provides great photos of Kathryn's built works, but it describes and shows her design process, as well as the transitions her practice went through as it grew. Well worth the read and great to have in the design library.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?.......2007-06-08
Just the cover of this book will tell you that you don't want to go here....The author likes graphic, garrish, monochromatic, in-you-face imagery, but without any "payoff" or even an anything-interesting focal point...the center of the composition on this cover, IS the center of interest (definitely a do not do this to your own compositions!)...and uh, are those vines or telephone wires, or is there a tornado here etc as a subject? I just personally can't stand these "how-to" style of artist/stylist/authors and shlocky color artists of this genre. Get away from fine art and into scenic background painting-big and splashy for the local high school theatre arts group and stay away from your easel with this stuff!! A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY UNLESS YOU'RE A HALF-BLIND COPYIST...Sorry Svob, it just stinks and that's my opinion...
Wonderful style, great tips........2005-08-09
mike svob's book is a great resource, he shares his style and ideas, so we too, can "Paint Red Hot Landscapes That Sell".
Red Hot Landscapes That Sell.......2005-02-22
I am new to the art of painting. I've bought lots of books on the subject but none of them has given me the urge to paint like this one does. I saw a larger picture of this book on a differant website and the front cover spoke to me. I'm glad i listened.
The way he simplifies the painting process is exactly what i've been looking for. If your a painter set in your ways this may not be for you but it's awesome for a beginer.
If you don't like the art don't buy the book. If you like the cover you really should check out the art inside it's fantastic.
The colors are too much.......2005-01-29
This was an example of not being able to look into the book prior to purchase. I would not have bought the book. Reds and Oranges just make me nervous and most of his paintings are filled with them. The paintings are dramatic, however most of them disturb me with their colors and I cannot paint that way. I suppose some of the advice is good that's why there are three stars. He is definitely a very talented artist but not for me.
Above average.......2004-12-13
I find this book disjointed and poorly written. The headlines are not followed through in the body of the pages. Perhaps someone who hasn't painted much would find it helpful, but Svob is mostly talking about compositional tricks. There are much better books on composition out there. If you like bright, garish colors, then this is the book for you. If you are weak in composition, then you might learn something too. Otherwise, I'd pass this book by. It does not deliver on the title, Paint Red Hot Landscapes that Sell.

The Little Horse That Could.......2005-08-17
This was a book I re-read over and over again in school, even bribing my sister to bring the book home from the school library after I had left.
This book is told from the point of view of a little bay horse named Sky Rocket. It follows him through his life through good owners and bad until he reaches a final home in a riding school.
This book is wonderful for what it teaches by telling a great story. I wish that such wonderful old-fashioned riding schools still existed today.
I would heartily reccommend this to any horse crazy reader.
The story I couldn't forget..........2003-04-26
For years I've read everything I could get my hands on. (That included my mom's copy of the Clan of the Cave Bear in third grade and Homer's Iliad in 5th grade!) I came across this story while systematically working my way through the middle school library and fell in love. I read it over and over again through middle school, and then forgot about it for a little while... but as a upperclassman in high school, I started to yearn for it again. I even thought about convincing my brother to check it out and "lose it"! ;-) I highly recommend that you read this book. Trust me, I've read just about every kind of book... and this one is really special. There's something about a beautiful, simple story about a special horse overcoming the odds that just rings true. "Sky Rocket" definately ranks among my all-time favorites.
Great book!.......2002-01-27
I read Sky Rocket when I was young. I had no idea it was based on a true story! It was one of the best books ever written!
Sky Rocket: The Story of a little Bay Horse.......2001-06-29
This is one of my favorite horse books. I ride and all of the circumstances about Madison Square Garden are similar to real life. I find this book facinating and love it a lot. I wish it was still in print, it's a loss to the equestrian world and everyone else that it isn't.
Wonderful book for horse lovers of all ages.......2000-07-14
I first read this book when I was a little girl and it still keeps me coming back. It's a heart wrenching tale of a little horse who goes to a good home only to slide down to a series of bad to worst ones. He's saved and goes on to do great things, this is based on a true story.

Local History at its BEST.......2007-08-26
The history of a local area and its people--any local area--is fascinating, and this is one of the better books dedicated to the telling of such a local history. It reads like an oral history, as though you've sat down with several grandmothers and listened to them recount "the way things used to be" when they were young. More groups (this is put out by a Georgian Bay cottagers' association) ought to preserve their histories in this manner; if they don't it will all be lost. The book itself is gorgeous--wonderful photos all throughout--and quite obviously a great labour of love for its writers and editors.

Gina "Gold Digger" Diggers is still on the go all over the world and beyond in search of old treasure and new knowledge. She briefly loses a valuable artifact to Ryan Tabbot, a cute (but self-centered) competitor, in Istanbul, but trails him soon enough to an ancient underground spaceport in Egypt. Ryan then joins her, arch-rival Penny, and friend/transport man Ace on a trip to the Bermuda Triangle, where an anomaly leads them into chronospace and onto the trail of a time-traveling genius dog and his pet boy. But if they don't bring this mutt mastermind to heel, he'll change history to ensure a future where Caninekind rules over Man!

Gold Digger Pocket Manga Volume 9.......2004-08-28
Volume 9 collects the following issues from the black and white (original) Gold Digger series:
Issue 36. The Chains of Aebra
Issue 37. "Form Blazing Shillelagh!"
Issue 38. A Fatal Flaw
Issue 39. Death of a Prince
Issue 40. A Bride's Tail.
Follow were-cheetah Britanny "Cheetah" Diggers, her sisters, and friends on her quest to reunite with Cheetah's fiance, the Kryn Prince Stryp'Gia "Stripe." Together will they be able to save him and his homeworld or is the wedding off for good?
Although this volume is a complete story arc, starting just after the Time Warp arc ends, I recommend starting from the beginning with Gold Digger Pocket Manga Volume 1. However, even if you get this volume first, you'll love the series so much you'll have to have them all.
Bonus material:
Volume 9 has unique cover art. The covers for the 5 issues that are contained within are depicted on the Contents page in black and white (one page has all 5 covers). There is a Main Character overview page featuring brief bios of all three Diggers sisters and Stripe. There is a The Story So Far... summary page and Next page giving a brief preview of what is to come in Volume 10.
Features that make buying the Pocket Manga better than buying the Gold Brick Volume II trade paper back that contains these issues and more:
Thicker Manga quality paper stock.
Page numbers and a table of contents with the names of the issues contained within.
No flipped pages, eye lashes on the proof pages, or blurred pages.
This time Fred Perry's beautiful art and inspired storytelling get the star treatment they deserve in this collection.
The only possible complaint I have is that the covers of the originals don't get a full page in this book, which also leaves out an easy to see break between issues. But that is not really a big enough deal to hold anyone back from buying this well-done compliation.
