Hi,
I am working in the travel business. This book, like anothers books by Martin Kunz, helps me find unique hotels anywhere. It is surprise for my customers to visit the new ones. I found new contacts, pictures, interesting descriptions... I recomend this book to everybody, not only for specialists. A BOOK TO DREAM ON.......2003-12-12

Someday (when I win the lottery) I'll board a plane and visit every one of the luxurious hotels featured in this gorgeous volume. Dreaming, you say? Well, it's easy dreaming curled in an arm chair with 400 beautiful full color photographs detailing the homes-away-from-home for the privileged. These are havens where luxury is not a luxury but the norm and no request is denied.

Of the 38 hotels one is hard pressed to select a favorite - they are all diverse, whether castles, palazzos, villas or state of the art modern. All boast manicured grounds so immaculately kept that they resemble Elysium. Eden-like settings give way to rooms decorated in kingly style and offering every amenity imaginable.

The Danieli in Venice, Italy, offers a rooftop restaurant with a breathtaking view of St. Mark's Square. A renovated 14th century palazzo, the Danieli is the epitome of elegance with a gilded staircase and chandeliers fashioned from Murano glass. Through the revolving doors is the hubbub of the Grand Canal; inside again one returns to an earlier time of comfort, quiet, and ease.

A great book on Casting.......2006-11-10

I have been casting for a few years at this point but C.W. Ammen is the best authority on the subject.
I re-learned a few things as I read this book. Anyone who does metal casting SHOULD own this book.

Great book for beginners.......2006-01-30

This book is great for newbies to Metal casting, it provides great details in creating molds, furnaces, and the do's and don'ts.

It gives several different types of molds from sand molds to plaster molds, and gives the advantages and disavantages of both. It explains the various types of furnaces from coke, propane, to waste oil. Finally it gives in perfect detail the causes for various abnormalties in your caste. . .

Great book to get started with. .

This text is great for the sand molder. There is a depth of knowledge that few others can illustrate in a clear manner. Also notable is the glossary of casting terms that takes up the last half of the book with drawings and clear language. I would recommend that every beginning metal caster buy this item, and every experienced caster peek at it when nobody is looking. Thumbs Up!
His book Cast Iron is the bible for ferrous metals.

Metalcasting.......2002-11-10

This is a big thick paperback book, that you might think goes into great detail and has a lot of descriptions. Unfortunatly, there is just some background and and brief descriptions of different things. Also, almost half the book is devoted to a glossary. If you want to find out about sand casting, "The complete Sand Casting Manual" also written by him though still not complete, is the book for you.

Metalcasting.......2000-02-20

If you do not have any other books by the author, C. W. Ammen, then this is a good book. However, if you already have "The Metalcaster's Bible" or "Complete Handbook of Sandcasting" then you already have 90% of this book.

Most of the illustrations and definitions are right out of these other two books. I was dissappointed with this book because I already had the other two books and bought this book for the new information it contained. There's a picture of a permanent mold being poured on the cover with no further explanation in the book about it. Just a short definition. I had bought this book because I thought it dealt with this process in depth. It does not. The cover is misleading.

There is however, a good section on building your own burn out oven for investment casting which is not in any of his other books.

As in his other books, some of the definitions are somewhat sketchy. He refers to "sharp sand" throughout the book with no definition of what it is. He tells of a Nitric Acid test for silicon where you let the mixture boil. Does this mean dissolving the metal (bubbling) or actually boiling the acid over a stove. If you try the latter, it could have severe consequences.

Editorial Cartoons about Desert Storm and other 1991 events.......2003-02-24

In American history textbooks or juvenile biographies of political figures, I always like to see editorial cartoons. From Thomas Nast to Bill Mauldin and Herb Block to Jeff MacNelly, a great editorial cartoon can capture the politics of a moment better than any photograph could ever do. "Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year: 1992 Edition" covers the events of 1991, including operation Desert Storm. On the prelude of the next Gulf War it is interesting, to say the least, to go back and see what was being drawn back then.

Beyond the heroism of Desert Storm 1991 saw the disintegration of the Soviet Union (see cover), the economic recession, the Bush White House, and the rising figures of the Democratic campaign trail (no Bill Clinton but lots of Mario Cuomo at this point). Other targets include the Senate confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, the David Duke campaign in Louisiana, peace prospects in the Middle East, the U.S. Congress bouncing checks, the plight of the poor and the homeless, and the plagues of crime and drugs. There are 345 editorial cartoons by more than 180 of the leading cartoonists in both the United States and Canada represent the complete political spectrum fomr the liberal left to the conservative right, along with the middle of the bird.
