not what I thought it was.......2007-01-03
I expected the book to be about lifestyle not house design. It seem typical for what has become of Key West - overbuilt, with a narrow view on style. Key West style to me is an internal thing, not how a house looks or is furnished! I returned this product.
Great pictures and history.......2006-05-18
I have been to Key West several times and love it. This book brings back memories of my trips. The pictures are gorgeous and the reading includes historical information - very enjoyable to read. The back section includes home plans of various styles of Key West homes. My only complaint is I wish the pictures that correspond with the home plans were actually pictures like the rest of the book (they are renderings).

This can be a easy to follow guide to designing a house for anyplace as well as for those who want to learn more about Key West (whether you live here or not).

This is a very unique look at Key West's house's and neighborhoods. Key West Style really educated me on the the interior archicture, floor plans and history. the book will be useful for anyone want information about Key West or considering remodeling a home to incorporat some of the charming features.

This is a book about one of those magical places that once you get there you don't want to leave. It's in the path of boats coming from Miami to the West Indies and is the place to see in the Caribbean before you die. Casa de Campo is the Caribbean most complete resort by far where any possible hobby in the world could practiced at world renowned conditions -besides skiing, except if you change it for water-sky-. It's about the renowned Marina at Casa de Campo, La Romana, Dominican Republic and is a must for anyone willing see from the inside out as many options as possible to recreate a tropical paradise despite if it's and apartment or a houses under 2,000 sqf or a masterpiece above 20,000 sqf.
In contrast with W.R. Blain's book for "Marina Developments" -That is an excellent and maybe the only book about Marinas from a structural standpoint- this one is an architectural approach to Marinas and all the elements around it such as Yacht Club, Apartments, Houses, Restaurants and all related services. It's full of details and references in a text that is catchy and easy to read. My only concern was that I thought it was pricy in the first place despite that it was printed and bounded in Italy, but Blain's book is above the $250 and this one is more related to interior design and architecture so it's worth 5 out 5 starts.

I love this book. If you enjoy the unique look of Key West Conch architecture you will enjoy this book. Color full page and full page plus photographs fill the book. Most pictures are full close-ups of the front of the house. It is a nice reminder of time spent in Key West. If you are interested in architecture it contains examples of the various unique Key West styles used. I enjoyed looking at picture of the famous houses and reading about why they are famous. Almost forgot it, contains the addresses of the houses in case you want to see them for yourself.

You really know when a musical genre has arrived, when a book of cover artwork is published. Hip hop has been around for a couple of decades or more so Andrew Emery's colorful book is especially timely and can join the expanding shelf of titles devoted to great cover art.
As is usual with any book devoted to this marketing art there are plenty of the duds and forgettable designs but in the case of hip hop the very nature of the music produces some startling and vibrant graphics. Just turn over the first few pages and by page thirteen the socko 1983 album Wild Style jumps of the page, graffiti artist Zephyr created the beautiful lettering, page sixteen has a stunning 1984 Afrika Bambaataa cover based on a Marvel comic cover. The three hundred covers are arranged historically into ten chapters and the author writes about the various musicians and graphic artists who created so many of these covers, in particular George Dubose gets some good coverage.
I thought the chapter called Beat Biters was intriguing, as the music itself samples other sounds why not sample other covers as well, ten examples are shown including the 1991 cover from Young Black Strangers based on the 1963 'With the Beatles' album, a 1989 Tone Loc cover 'Loc'ed after Dark' was swiped from a 1963 Donald Byrd Blue Note LP designed by Reid Miles.
This book will interest graphic designers and fans of hip hop and all those who just want a record of the stuff they've missed.

Not what I had expected.......2003-03-26
To be fair, if you're browsing through the erotic photos section of the website and you come across a book called "provocative shots", you're hoping for something pretty special. I even chose it in preference to "Absolut verboten: total filth 1950-2000". Still, it makes for an interesting discussion point when liberal friends come round, and also provides a quick and easy way to get rid of unwelcome prudish neighbours. Recommended more as a communications strategy than a thrill.

I'm a nudes photographer and find the book is very useful. The Provocative Shots is a shot one step beyond the Erotic Shots. You can find the lighting diagrams is very easy to read and very helpful for you to set a lighting. If you interested in Nudes Photography you should have another titles from Pro-Lighting series like NUDES, PROVOCATIVE SHOTS and EROTICA.
Excellent sourcebook for ideas.......2000-05-09
I am a professional photographer... whose work is included in this book. I found the work of other artists very inspirational and thought provoking. The caliber of the work presented here is exceptional, and I find my creative horizons have expanded because of this book. I'm honored to be among the exceptional photographers included here.

Good artwork and bizzare storyline.......2006-06-19
This is a good series and its weak point is ending (and maybe Taste of Revenge trade). It is a bit repetitive: mix James Bond/Sherlock Holmes kind of Ruse, John Woo hardcore crime movie and weird love story and you got your Freeman novel.

Good artwork, shoddy storyline.......2003-11-05
The artwork, done by veteran Ryoichi Ikegami, is beautiful. Nearly realistic while being stylized, it gives the manga its own unique look.
Sadly, the story part doesn't do so well.
So the concept is good: a man is brainwashed by Chinese mafia to do their dirty work but is always conscious of what he's doing...hence "crying freeman." But its not really portrayed well here. He has to go kill a woman, and she says, "Wait before you kill me I don't want to die a virgin!"
Yeah...right. I smell and excuse for sex. And you get it.
As it boils down to flashbacks, what do we get? More sex. I'm not kidding. Every other page has a woman either receiving it or getting raped. Its just...stupid. I began to wonder if I was reading actual manga or a hentai title.
You could call it "adult." I call it "dumb."

The Crying Freeman is an assassin. The best ever. But, that wasn't the way it used to be.
He was once called Yo Hinomura, a well-established, peace loving Japanese potter with a reputation known the world over. That is until one fateful day when a marked-for-death photographer, who is a material witness to a gangland murder unintentionally dumps a film evidence into one of Mr. Yo's pots during an exhibition in New York. When Yo stumbles upon the film, he becomes the next target of the 108 Dragons--A Chinese Mafia known throughout the free world as the top dealer in narcotics. From that fateful day onwards, Yo's freedom was turned into myth as the Chinese Mafia threatened to kill him if he revealed the contents of the film to the police. This book is the first volume of the Crying Freeman series wherein readers are introduced to the world of Chinese and Japanese organized crime, its deadliness as well as its small glories. In this first huge installment, we see the portrait of an assassin who weeps each time he takes away a life. But does his being a killer make him evil? That is the question that dominates the entirety of the book as the Freeman falls helplessly in love with a Japanese woman named Emu Hino, who is both fascinated and mesmerized with the character of Yo. And from that fateful encounter, the book muddles the thin line between good and evil as we see the plight of Yo/Freeman as he tries to protect the woman he loves dearly and serve the "family" that demands nothing but utmost loyalty from their best hitman, disregarding everything else including his right to love.
Written by Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub) and pencilled by Ryoichi Ikegami (Sanctuary), this book is the result of their well-founded collaboration on Japanese manga crime stories that blows the mind away. Wherever they may be, kudos to both of them.
So if you're looking for a great adult manga crime yarn that tops all else, look no further than the Crying Freeman. It has all the elements of action and drama that would make you want for more. The book contains mind-crushing violence, three-dimensional characters, and steamy love making scenes that would just make your jaw drop in their stark and complex beauty.
Finally, does the portrait of a killer reveal what evil is like? I think it all depends on the one who looks at what's inside...

This book is a very touching and gripping story about death, loyalty, and the invulnerable tie of love between two people. Kazuo Koike's takes you into the world of not just the average street punk crime syndicate, but of one which exemplifies of the bond of family. That's not the say this book is all about family get together with an occasional killing between meals, oh no, this book with satisfy every craving you have. The violence in this book is masterful. It's not all about shoot 'em up and bang, bang, but goes deeper into what makes a person kill, and how far would they go to put their lives down for the sake of others. The book begins with the hero doing what he does best, killing. But what Kazuo Koike tried to amplify with Freeman was to put a human touch to his character. The fact that he sheds tears every every time he kills, hence the title, allows more sympathy in his agony than hate for the fact that he's a killer. The book also introduces the strength of love, and how it can brake all barriers, forcing a man who's killed without remorse many times, to be conflicted not to do so by the mere meeting of eyes of a woman he's hired to kill.
The structure of the 108 dragon syndicate was well written. These aren't Mafia men who put money before friends and meet loyalty with the end of a barrel. The 108 dragons is more of a family than a crime organization. Each member looks to the other as a brother or sister and put their lives in the face of a cocked gun barrel to spare the life of the other (one scene in the book shows this best, you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it). The writing of the book is more serious than comical. Calling this a comic book is more of an insult really. Once you've read past the first few pages, you'll soon know what I mean.
The characters in this book are also legendary. If you take the time to really feel the dialogue shared by Freeman and his enemies, you'll find that nothing ever written can compare to this. They don't fight for money, or just cause their hired too. Freeman is more like a challenge to these men and women who dare to come and face him. From the African woman who fell in love with him just for the way he fought, to the syndicate vileness woman who's taste for blood first submerged by watching one of Freeman's assassinations.
And lastly, the master of graphic novel illustration, Ryoichi Ikegami. There really are no words to compare Ikegami's art but to see it for your own eyes. Every detail form the human form to the facial expressions and very (and i mean very) detailed love scenes in the book are just jaw dropping. It's very, very sad that the anime version of this book is out of production because they really stayed true to what crying freeman was all about. Buy it, read it, and fall in love with this book. You owe it to yourself.
