Don't Do It!!!!!.......2007-08-17
If you are buying this book because it is required text for his talk, do youself a BIG service and get your refund immediately. He promises to deliver how to teach you graphics in 7 or 12 days, depending on the location, and he will not deliver. He takes your money, teaches, perhaps what equates to two days of real teaching and continously tells you how privileged you are to learn these things from him. The remaining time is spent on his non-stop blathering about non-related ideas like his philosophy, websites (like myspace), etc., etc. He wastes your valuable time and your hard earned money. Be forewarned!
rendering techniques are easy to understand.......2007-01-17
it is avery fantastic book im very happy to have it its educational and a very paowerful reference for rendering, it is time saving and easy to apply, wonderful colour schemes, i recomend this book to all architectural renderers & architects as well
Awful.......2006-01-11
I bought this book and disliked it so much that it was the one and only book I have ever returned to Amazon. It was terribly dated which would have been acceptable if the content was there but it wasn't. Save some money AND get what you're looking for in Color Drawing: Design Drawing Skills and Techniques for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Interior Designers by Michael E. Doyle. That's what I replaced it with and I love it!
Description misleading.......2005-10-23
I just want to emphasize to someone interested in purchasing this book...there is NO verbal technique given on how to render any drawings. There is a drawing only...with a description of paper, medium, etc...but no "how to" on reproducing it. I am a professional artist and I was hoping to learn from this book how someone else might create a drawing with certian papers, paints, etc....but, there is no information of the steps taken...just the end result.
No techniques, just references.......2005-09-21
Overall, a feeling of disappointment. The title claims techniques but there is absolutely no guidance, no comments, and no insight for the reader. This is a picture book filled with a collection of renderings with minimal captions noting materials used and acknowledgements. Flipping page after page the reader begins to recognize the styles of the recurring artists. This book may help you identify a style (although dated) to pursue but it ultimately becomes the reader's burden to try to reproduce selected rendering through trail and error.
Book Description
Containing some 300 illustrations and minimum text, this is the most complete guide and study of color rendering of interiors ever compiled. Gifted teacher Wei Dong visually instructs readers step by step in every rendering technique, and provides hundreds of examples of common elements found in residential and commercial interiors. Remarkably broad in scope, from concept sketches to fully executed presentations, Color Rendering is also exhaustive in its coverage of the materials, finishes, and objects found in interiors.

Great for students!.......2007-09-07
I am a senior interior design student and this book was recommended by one of my instructors. It gives good, very basic step-by-step instructions for rendering common building materials with different mediums (watercolor, color pencil, and markers). One issue that I did find was that some of the illustrations don't exactly follow the written instructions, but because of the format, that's a pretty small issue. This is a book that I'd recommend for beginning design students, but more advanced students may find this book a little too basic.
Color Rendering Tips.......2001-12-14
I was introduced to Wei Dong's book in an Interior Design class on Presentation Techniques. It is an excellent book for all but the most experienced Interior Renderer. It focuses on the use of color markers and comes complete with practice exercises that help build your skill and confidence. I highly recommend it!
dissapointment.......2001-11-16
i recieved this book this book in the mail and had been eagerly awaiting its arrival. i don't know how else to express it other than i was very dissapointed. i have see Michael Doyle's fist edition of his Color Drawing and my original intent was to buy the second edition of that, but when i saw this book with its raving editorial review i decided to try this one instead. i mean who could turn down a book with a review like "the most complete guide and study of color rendering of interiors ever compiled" and "exhaustive in its coverage" i thought that this book was going to be wonderful. i think that i might have found it useful if i had never even picked up colored pencils and markers before. There was very little rendering of total interiors just objects or things that might go in an interior. If you are really looking for a complete source then i really wouldn't recomend this book, only a just starting out beginner might find it useful.
Excellent Referance Book.......2001-03-10
An excellent reference book for all designers. It gives great advise and tips for all forms of rendering both interiors and exteriors. The step by step instructions were not as informative as they could have been, but overall an excellent book for any designer.

Using this book and some basic paint supplies, you can transform your tired old wooden furniture into functional works of art. This book is great for turning "flea market finds" into "shabby chic" style furniture. Beginners and even experienced craftspersons will enjoy these organized projects and easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

rfk funeral train.......2005-09-05
Very moving collection of coffin's trip across States. Amazed to see how many turned up to pay last respects. Mailer's essay also a tribute to RFK
A stunning collection of photographs.......2004-11-24
I remembered seeing this book reviewed in The New York Times when I needed a birthday gift for one of those hard-to-suit relatives! The photographs taken from the train are stunning. They capture the real grief felt at RFK's death and bring it home to people (like me) who were too young to take it in.

Clerical Errors.......2005-06-21
This is an Elseworlds tale in the tradition of Gotham By Gaslight but released before the Elseworlds name came to be.
The time is the present but one different from the one we know. Oliver Cromwell did not die when he did in our world, instead he rose from his sickbed and persisted for another decade. Because of this, the mother church is in full control of Britain and the New World colonies (and much of the world that they have conquered). Here a young Bruce Wayne has finally found peace after the death of his parents. He is about to take his vows with the church when Inquisitor Gordon reveals that Wayne's parents were rebels and were executed my the Church in a way made to look like a random crime. Now Bruce does not know what to do.
His confidence in the church has been shaken and Bruce sets out to revenge himself on those that decided to kill his parents. But his quest leads him higher and deeper as he discovers that there are people with amazing abilities that have been either enslaved by the church or imprisoned. Bruce sees that his problem is not with the Church itself but with the way some men are wielding its power. With his faith strong Wayne continues to don an old demon costume of his father's and goes out to fight the injustice of the system.
This was one of the best of the Elseworlds tales. The alternate history worked well and the parallel heroes that Bruce discovers were very well done. While Gotham By Gaslight had a couple of sequels, this one has remained alone although it is rich enough to spawn many new tales. Check it out.
Full of mistakes, but very enjoyable.......2004-11-09
This is, as far as I know, the first official Elseworlds book. The "What If" is Oliver Cromwell's survival for a decade, which ensures that the Puritan Commonwealth remains in place indefinitely in Britain and its colonies, including North America. Bruce Wayne's parents, dissidents in this harsh, totalitarian theocracy, are murdered by order of the Court of Star Chamber, a shadowy religious authority. This sets in motion the cogs and wheels that will lead to Batman's advent. Seeking answers, Batman penetrates the bowels of Gotham Cathedral and runs into a government project, run by the demented scientist Erdel, to control superhumans and turn them into government stooges. Flash, Green Lantern, Vicky Vale, Aquaman, Lori Lemaris, Clayface, Zatanna, Metamorpho and, most memorably, Superman, turn up and are either crushed by the government and turned into slaves. The story is well told, and remarkably sophisticated. The artwork is acceptable, though not brilliant.
The book is, nonetheless, full of mistakes. The Commonwealth police were never called "Inquisitors", and in fact the term would have been repugnant to them, since it would have smelled of Catholic popery. The same goes for the flagrant use of religious imagery in Bruce Wayne's gymnasium and in a Church where he is ordained. The Puritans were iconoclasts and did not accept the use of human representation in a religious context. In fact, they destroyed most of Britain's medieval imagery, which was a significant part of its culture. The religious structure, with Bishops and ordained priests, looks rather Episcopal, and would have been inconsistent with the Puritans, many of whom were Presbiterians who did not accept tbe bishopry. And also, the Puritans were very divided among themselves and could never have held power for 350 years irrespective of Cromwell's survival. Plus the book is clearly intended as a heavy-handed criticism of the American religious right. Comic books can do social criticism, but then they need to be better informed (cf. The Watchmen is still the gold standard for this).
Having said this, who cares? The story is nonsensical but fun and memorable. So buy it, already!
Elseworld Batman as its best.......2004-05-10
This is an alternate reality or elseworlds of Batman. In this era, the holy church still rule. Bruce Wayne's parents, both doctors to the inner circle of the holy church get murdered by a small time criminal, young bruce swore revenge. Little did he knows that the murderer of his parents is not just a small time criminal.. his parents are not just a victim of random street crime.. They are victims of much more larger and sinister entity.
The story has great opening and great ending (although not so satisfactory for me anyway). But in the middle,it dwindle a bit. And the run-of-the-mill genetic re-engineering side story is a bit silly IMHO.
If you are familiar with DC characters like Oliver (Green Arrow), Flash, Aquaman, Superman..you can get the amusment at the background story. Otherwise, it doesn't much make sense anyway.
DC Elseworlds are the best!.......1998-05-09
Bruce Wayne, an acolyte in the holy church, wants to know why his parents were murdered. On the way to finding out, he discovers that the church and government aren't nearly as pure as he thought they were. And so he dons the mantle of the bat in a terrifying world without superheroes.

Needlessly overdramatic.......2004-04-23
This collection is a sequel to Batman: Prey published druing the early days of the Legends of the Dark Knights. Prey was superbly written and beautifully drawn. The same team returned on TERROR which was as far as sequels go is worse than the original.
The story is lackluster and predictable. Hugo Strange has returned from the dead and has procured Scarecrow do destroy the Batman, physically and mentally. That's pretty much it as far as the plot goes. Sure, there is murder, intrigue and betrayal but nothing too spectacular. There is also Catwoman who at one point becomes an annoyance. Her constant games of "catch me" with Batman quickly grows tedious and boring. It has been done before (i.e. in Hush, Long Halloween, Dark Victory). The writer (Doug Moench) also goes terribly out of his way to make the story dark and disturbing. For example, he had Dr. Strange french kissing a mannequin, painting bats with the blood of his victims. The conversation between the characters (especially Batman and Gordon) are drawn out and almost seems like they are not talking to each other, but talking for the sake of hearing themselves talk. All these add up to the story being needlessly oversdramatic.
And as far as the art goes, Paul Gulacy does a superb job. His action scenes read like a storyboard. He also does a couple of great splash pages. The art is the saving grace for this book and the reason why I gave it three stars. While, some fans might enjoy the story, others (like me) may not.

Joker's Gone Wild With an Airship.......2005-04-14
This is a Young Adult novel about one of the Batman's Greatest cases. Well, Greatest according to our young narrator, who admits he's a bit biased because he gets to help.
The story is pretty staight ahead actioner. Recently moved to Gotham City from East Texas, our your narrator decides to creep onto a rooftop to help a cat -- it's just the right thing to do. There, he stumbles onto a mystery. The Joker, Clown Prince of Crime, has himself an airship and he's up to no good! It's up to our hero (with a little help from Batman, all right a bunch of help) to figure out the sinister plot and put an end to it.
Fun, fun, fun. This novel reads like a great comic book, the kind of thing you just don't want to put down. Luckily, the size is such that you'll be done in an hour or two. Makes great reading aloud, too.
