Book Description
The allure of mobile, portable architecture is worldwide and centuries old, from the desert tents of the bedouin to the silvery capsules of the Airstream trailer. Mobile explores the ever-growing range of possibilities of portable, demountable, and mobile structures. Jennifer Siegal brings together the work of the most interesting contemporary designers of dynamic, active structures, whose work ranges from the microenvironment of a house that literally attaches to your body to the city-scaled macroenvironment of London's Millennium Dome, from the interior of a Boeing jet to an entire mobile community whose living units plug into a framework of flexible communal space, and from the practical design of transportable office space to the whimsical design of Pink Floyd's The Wall stage set. All of the designs celebrate the lightness, transience, and practicality that mobile architecture makes possible. Mobile includes work by Office of Mobile Design, LOT/EK, Vito Acconci, Doug Jackson/LARGE, Mark Fisher, Michael Fox, FTL Happold, Festo, and Lawrence Scarpa. In beautiful color images, detailed drawings, and thoughtful text, the contributors reveal their working methods.

meh.......2005-08-31
A little anemic, but some solid ideas are represented here. I would have liked a little coherency in the presentation, and a lot more depth.
Cool.......2004-05-20
You get the comprahensive overview of the subject. The book is quite small so don't expect too much. But it is a good buy for home library.
Mobile: the Art of Portable Architecture.......2003-03-14
A paean to inflatables, tensile canopies, demountable stages, and trailers, by an innovative LA architect and teacher who believes that "Anything you can't fold up and take with you is a blight on the environment and an insult to one's liberty." (Michael Webb is the book reviewer for LA Architect magazine.)

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

This book is a treasure.......2006-08-20
Whether you are simply curious about rock painting, or have a desire to paint flowers on rocks, this book is for you. It is well written by a world class rock artist and teacher and in addition to offering know-how, it is an encouraging book that shows the way to get involved in this fascinating and not too expensive art form.
Painting Flowers on Rocks by Lin Welford.......2006-03-16
This book was as I expected it to be.. the demonstrations were clear and instructons easy.. I ordered it because of an episode on the Carol Duvall show in which the author painted a beautiful bouquet on a simple smooth rock ..I have ordered other books of the same nature from Amazon before and have been equally satisfied.
Being creative.......2006-02-26
It was such a pleasure to receive Lin's book about painting flowers on rocks. I have several of her other books which has brought us lots of hours of fun and fantasy. We appreciate her talents and her sharing her ideas with others like us. Her flower painted rocks are perfect for places like cemeteries that don't allow fresh flowers. It helps bring beauty to our loved ones graves without the work and worry of live plantings. The rocks require "no watering!" Thanks Lin for all your creative ideas.

Book Description
This recently revised and updated book presents a summary of the information available on petroglyphs, how to view, clues to their meanings, where to find them, and taking photographs. Although this study is not intended as a definitive one, this book, with its many illustrations, provides petroglyph buffs with extensive information and a complete bibliography of the sources used in the research. New maps of the Island of Hawaii show the location of the vast petroglyph fields there, with detailed instructions on how to reach the most accessible sites.

Questions and some answers.......2006-04-01
This book provides a varied repository of information about the petroglyphs that can be seen on the island of Hawaii. Topics covered include: location, documentation, theories of who made them, when, and what they mean, and how to take rubbings. The book is illustrated with maps, reproductions of petroglyphs, and a few photographs.
For the most part, McBride doesn't definitively settle any questions about the mysteries of the petroglyphs. Instead, he carefully lays out the competing theories and leaves it up for the reader to decide which of these is more likely (although he does express some bias in some instances). One interesting theory that McBride attributes to Dr. Kenneth Emory is that when both simple and complex forms of a petroglyph shape are found, the simple one is presumably older. If this is so, it suggests that the petroglyph carving may be more likely to be art than a form of writing, since in ancient writing systems, symbols tend to become simpler and less concretely representational with time. The book can make an interesting record of a trip to see the petroglyphs, and it has some potential pointers for more information, but it is not likely to answer all the questions you might have about the petroglyphs.
Petroglyphs of Hawaii.......2003-02-02
This is a good introduction to the subject in Hawaii. Easy reading and informative. Not a good read for rabid conservationists. In addition I would recommend the Hawaiian Petroglyphs by Cox...
Poor, promotes destruction of rock art.......1995-10-27
Very simple intro to Hawaiian rock art.
Perhaps best suited for grade school level.
Inadvertently promotes destruction of rock art by "rubbings".
A better book would be Cox & Stasack's "Petroglyphs of Hawaii",
available from the Bishop Museum Press.

Julie Allen's husband was buried alive on a work site, and she experienced a mountain of emotions. First chaos, then a fog of grief, confusion, anger, pain, questions, and then a profound realizationGod certainly was not silent!
Customer Reviews:
excellent book.......2007-01-04
This book is well written and insightful... everyone, Christian or not, should read this book! All of us will have burdens in this life- the Bible tells us this- so Julie Ann teaches us how to "be prepared". I especially like the chapter entitled, "Faith is like a car". We have to keep the car in top form so it will perform when we need it to. Our faith needs to be maintained in that way, too, not just when the crisis comes. As difficult as losing her husband must have been, Julie Ann has allowed God to work through her and be a shining light that exemplifies His glory. Well done!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Police Story & Frist Rate Romance. Powerful Author.......2001-01-15
The challenge with a Police story romance is integrating a compelling police drama with a "keeper" romance. Many authors cannot do this. Either the story or the romance suffers. Often you get a poor police story and a poor romance. In this story, however, Debra Cowan has met the challenge with flying colors. The police story is first rate. Even better, the romance remains the focus of the story from the first page to the last. The love scenes are exceptionally powerful because they are the logical outcome of the particular characters' development throughout the story. You have no doubt that these two people, the hero and heroine, would have the heighten romantic experiences described -- given who they are and what actions preceded the love scene. This is very good writing.
You can tell the author enjoys writing the love scenes. Probably because she really cares about her characters. (Too, many police story authors want to get the love scene "over with" so they can get on with the mystery.) Debra Cowan's love scenes are very similar in sensitivity, quality, and sincerity to Justine Davis's who I consider a master. Debra Cowan is at full command of her powers as a writer and should produce many more fine works. As far as the Police romance story goes, this is an example of how to do it.

Silent Night.......2007-03-26
This is the second copy of this book I have bought. The illustrator is a favorite of mine and the book is simply beautiful!
Stunningly and simply beautiful book for children and adults.......2005-11-15
If this is not Jeffers best work, I need to see more of her stuff. This was recommended to me by Amazon.com and I bought it immediately even tho Christmas had just ended. I wanted it here for my grandchildren for Christmas this year, and I already have it out for us all to enjoy. The drawings are just beautiful and go with the simple song that the German organist Joseph Mohr wrote that has held the heart of so many people over centuries now. I don't think the man truly appreciated the impact his song would have, even on grown men fighting a war (World War I) to the extent that they called a truce for one short period of time. Would that we all could leave something so beautiful behind us when our time on earth is up. I think Jeffers has added to the beauty and understanding of the song for children in this artwork.

Nice but not Jeffer's best work........2005-03-29
I've been looking for some excellant illustrated Xmas books and thought I would find it in this 'Silent Night' illustrated by Jeffers.
I am a great admirer of Susan Jeffer's artwork but this just isn't as compelling as her other works. An 'okay' book but nothing great.
Stunning and simple.......2003-12-22
I just bought this book, and I feel confident it will be a cherished keepsake. It's hard to find a book of the Christmas story that is brief enough for the youngest children, but the lyrics to "Silent Night" work beautifully. The illustrations are lovely and the text is very simple and familiar, but eloquent.

Book Description
Life lessons for bears-a lighthearted illustrated guide to basic Buddhist beliefs that feature our portly, plucky, and perpetually hungry bear friends.
Customer Reviews:
Very disappointing.......2001-08-12
I had high hopes that "Buddhism for Bears" would be an insightful blend of two of my favorite subjects. Sadly, this nice idea is poorly executed with illustrations depicting bears as buffoons. The jacket notes tell the reader, "Like the rest of us, bears are searching for a way to fill the emptiness inside themselves." Excuse me? As one of nature's most noble beings, bears should be the object of veneration, not ridicule. Riddell's sketches, while cleverly rendered, show bears as drunken idiots, demonstrating the worst behavior of human beings. I realize the drawings are intended to portray human characteristics, but why not make them humans instead of projecting human stupidity on the gentle bear? Since Lord Buddha--who in an early incarnation sacrificed his life so that a hungry tigress and her seven cubs could eat--appreciated the dignity and spirit of animals, I had hoped this slim volume might distill Buddha's teachings through the eyes of our ursine friends. Readers seeking a lesson in the dharma would be better served buying something along the lines of "The Buddha Speaks" or Rahula's classic, "What the Buddha Taught." And any book of bear photos will show their enormous nobility and spirit.
Finally something on my level........2001-04-21
I have a slew of Buddhist books, calendars, and whatnots. They explain everything to the nth degree and have lovely serene pictures. This book however is get to the point. This book uses bears to depict human traits. It shows the lighter side of Buddhism. If Siddhartha were here today he would say lighten up and you may learn something. It really brings to mind Dave Barry. Dave starts out sane and quiet then builds up to a roar and goes off the deep end. The captions in this book are the sane part and the illustrations are the deep end. I have two favorite pictures. The first is captioned "Vigorous body movements may evoke a feeling of wellbeing "(page 55.) The second caption is "Love other living beings as a member of the universe."(Page 19
Next to read is Buddhism for Sheep
Amusing Little Book.......2000-12-31
This is an amusing little book, filled with large, cute drawings of bears doing all sorts of silly things to demonstrate the one-line thoughts found at the bottom of each page. I was hoping for more informative Buddhist thought - this is mostly illustrations with a little bit of Buddhism - but it's amusing. If you're looking for a little book of bear drawings with some Buddhism here and there, this is it. However, if you're actually looking for a little book of Buddhist thought (like I was) with some beautiful illustrations here and there, I recommend the one by Taro Gold.
A very cute book.......2000-06-16
If you're interested in buddhism, this is a very cute book to learn something about it.
