Book Description
With a little imagination and creativity--and without hiring a professional--almost anyone can transform a small living space into a comfortable and stylish environment. Whether decorating a dorm room, an apartment, or a little cottage, what we strive for is a look and feel that expresses our individual personalities. Part style guide, part idea sourcebook, this handy volume--designed to meet the needs of real people with real budgets--is packed with smart ideas, basic design principles, and enough inspiration to get you off the sofa to make it happen.
In her lively, informative text, design guru Marisa Bartolucci takes readers inside 33 small homes from cities across the U.S. to reveal how a strong sense of style--rather than design know-how or unlimited resources--is the most effective tool for transforming an ordinary cramped living space into a smart yet functional private sanctuary.

Lots of inspiration.......2007-09-22
Love the way the book shows apartments of varying small sizes and multiple solutions for small-space dilemmas (like little room for sleeping, tiny kitchens). I was able to brainstorm a solution for my own apartment after one look through this book.
My only complaint is that there are no product resources listed--just designers' names and contact information.
Fabulousity on a budget.......2007-06-01
Well, I guess I'll add my voice to the chorus of reviewers for this book:
This is a jewel of a book. Lots of fabulous examples of small spaces with a lot of character. People who love art, collect books and appreciate unexpected decorating ideas will enjoy this book."
A lovely book that could use a bit of fine-tuning to best serve its intended readership.......2007-04-06
I really liked this book, but it only gets 4 out of 5 stars because I think the definition of "small spaces" is too broad. This book would be better if it showcased twice as many spaces from 100-600sqf, rather than going all the way up to 1000. Maybe for people who don't live in cities, 1000sqf is tiny, but I think a lot of the book's target audience would find that amount of space to be truly palatial. Many of the larger spaces had yards or terraces, sometimes doubling the real amount of living space, so that feels like a "cheat" to me. I got the most ideas out of the first half of the book, and the rest of the book was enjoyable as a general interior design book rather than a "small spaces" design book. Many of the featured homes' remodels involve knocking out walls and really re-working a space, so if you're a renter looking for what you can do with a small space you don't own, you might be disappointed. All in all, a very nice book with wonderful photographs, I just wish there was a greater focus on spaces under 600sqf, and more creative rentals being showcased for readers who are renters.
Really small spaces!.......2007-03-26
A small but pretty coffee table book with great content and some good ideas for living in tiny, tiny spaces.
1) 16 of the 33 profiled spaces were 500 sq ft or less! The other 17 were 600 - 1000 sq ft in size. I haven't seen many books on small space living that focus on this size range. Most books seem to present 2000 sqft houses as tiny.
2) The owners of these spaces didn't all have an unlimited budget. Many were in rentals so gut renovations, moving walls, etc was not an option. Many did have expensive or design worthy furniture and art but quite a few were heavily furnished with IKEA and thrift store finds.
3) Most of the owners had to be very carefull with clutter and picking pieces that would work in the space and that they really loved. Some of the other Amazon reviews found this to be somewhat unrealistic but I think that when you live in such small spaces, you are going to have to keep things very neat and tidy.
4) Part of the title is "expressing personal style". There is plenty of that in the book mostly clustered around what I'll call "modern" (eams etc), "drama" (red, red everywhere), "eclectic" (high design items mixed with garage sale items) and "standard" (danish). Many of the owners have extensive collections that are well presented and show off their unique personal style.
5) Most of these places are inhabited by: architects, artists, interior decorators, makeup artists, writers, curators, floral designers, etc. Essentially those who are in the "profession". I got the impression that hiring someone is de rigur if you are an accountant or fireman.
6) I liked the organization of the book by size of the space, architectural diagram of the space, lots of well shot photos, a narrative of who the residents are and how the space came to be and a picture of the residents.
7) One of my favorites were Francisco Parod and Ximena Orozco, the couple from Mexico living in a 450sqft NY apartment...with a baby! Not only did it look comfortable and open, they furnished almost everything at IKEA. My other favorite was Karen Meyer. She had translucent screens that could slide between the living room and dining room. This provided flexibility to the spaces by making it more expansive or more private, as needed. A murphy bed that was behind a shelf unit in the dining room could be opened up to create a guest room. A nice example of rooms doing double duty.
All in all, the best book I've found for realistic ideas for very small spaces.
Living Large in Small Spaces.......2007-03-19
Although I was not overwhelmed with inspiration, I liked the set-up of this book. The spaces are grouped by square footage complete with pictures of all areas of the space and a floor plan so that you can visualize how the spaces fit together. I also liked the fact that there were various design styles. However, I could not visualize myself living in the majority of the spaces displayed in this book. The majority of the homes displayed were homes of designers and artists. Since I myself am not a designer or an artist, I could and would not begin to design like what was displayed in this book.

Deja-vu.......2006-11-16
A chronological synopsis of Stephen king's life and work from boyhood through the publication of "Bag of Bones", this biography documents his personal and professional growth using publicly available materials.
A "readers digest" version of information previously available and put into chronological order. There is no "new" information presented, but Mr. Beahm compiles public interviews and historic information into an easy to read recap of the author's journey towards success. A terrific overview of his accomplishments.
A good introduction to his life and work for those that may not have followed his career as he built arguably one of the largest fan bases in America. However, the lack of depth and insight keeps the rating low, and much of the information is constantly repeated throughout the book.
Boogeyman.......2005-10-21
Boogey Man
By: Stephen King
Stephen Kings book "Boogeyman" was a great book. This story will make you leave closet door open while you sleep, and keep you up for days. Stephen King really has a unique way of writing. He knows how to build and keep suspense on for periods of time. This is exactly what he does, and it's truly great. The story is a must for those who like suspense and those who like horror stories.
The story starts with a guy that goes to see his therapist, and confesses that he feels the deaths of his children are his fault. His children were always afraid of the closet. The police declared one death to be a cradle death. Its little details such as these that make the book as good as it is. The little hints to what is going to happen, makes you want to read more. These build up suspense and keep you wanting to read. Stephen Kind also has a good way of making you wonder what's going to happen next. Its one of the many techniques he is skilled in. This story is truly worth your time to read, and it is suggested to do so.
A Must Have Book For Any King Fan.......2005-08-24
I have read this book twice now and have also read another of Beahm's books. They are hands down GREAT. I originally picked up this book as a Stephen King fan, but needed it for a school report. It gave me so much more information than I could have POSSIBLY dreamed of. While still be intriguing, it gives neat facts, important information and everything else about King's writing career as well as his life. Don't take this as a book of records though; it's a good book to pick up and read for pleasure. There are many stories that are woven into this book as well as King's family and life. It's a worthwhile book for any person who enjoys Stephen King's work as well as those who want to learn about the man BEHIND the pages.
nothing but publishing politics.......2003-02-21
Didn't care for this book at all. If you want to learn about Stephen King you'd be much better off reading or listening to his book "On Writing."
A Old/New Fan Of The Horror Master!.......1999-09-15
I just read this book, (in one sitting)! A must read for fans. This book chronicles King's work up to late last year ('98). It almost reads like a novel itself. I was absorbed by Beahm's willingness to focus on King's work and not his private life (something he makes note of in the book). You'll get a feel for where King has come from and how he's evolving. Beahm even chronicles the movies (most of which don't do justice to the books). My only complaint is the short stories in the collections were sparsely reviewed. If your looking for a "biography" this isn't it!!!

Customer Reviews:
I got mine autographed!.......2004-08-22
These comics are sort of like Sergio and Mark's version of horror comics. In them, an old gravedigger narrates stories about the "Boogeyman". The Boogeyman is not a physical being, but rather is the symbolic manifestation of people's fears. The narrative structure gives ample opportunity to tell (mostly) humorous stories about human fears. If you are familar with Sergio's other collaborations with Mark, you know what to expect. If you only know Sergio from his work in Mad Magazine, well, this is similar to that, only longer and with more narrative structure. Recommended to all fans of funny comic books.
fUNNY!.......2004-02-26
nOT sERGio's best work but really, really funny.
I can't stop laughing.
It is an interesting way to express most common fears.
The marvelous rhymes by MARK eVANIER ARE PRETTY Good!
If you wanta book about sergio, buy it indoubtely
Good, but not typical Aragones picture cartoons.......2003-01-05
If you're looking for the classic no-words Aragones comics, then don't get this book. It is more like the comics you read in the papers.

A Reassuring Guide to Parenting in Troubled Times
Boys and girls have always worried about the monsters—the boogeymen—that their imaginations create out of normal fears and the angst of growing up. The terrifying events since September 11, however, have added a dimension of disturbing reality to their monster fears. That's why now, more than ever, your children need strong, committed, and wise parenting.
In Living with the Boogeyman, father and noted child psychologist Dr. Richard Bromfield offers clear, reassuring advice and a broader and more farsighted vision of parenting in this new world.
Inside you'll discover:
·How fear psychologically impacts your child
·What, when, how and how much to discuss with your child
·Strategies to help put anger in its place
·How to foster resilience in the face of danger
·How traumatic experiences needn't traumatize
·And much more
This sensitive and enlightening guide will advise, comfort, and inspire you as a parent so that you, in turn, can do the same for your child in these troubling and uncertain times.
"Empowers parents to raise children who are active participants in creating a more peaceful world."

When he was a boy, Tim Jensen knew the true meaning of fear, for it haunted his nights and set in motion the tragic events that would steal his sanity, take his youth, and shape the rest of his life. These days, Tim gets by most of the time...with the past still casting a long shadow over the muted sense of normalcy that he has struggled for as an adult. But lurking in the dim-lit corners of his world, hiding within the darkest recesses of his senses, something that may or may not be a figment of Tim's imagination is watching -- and waiting. The waking nightmare that has lasted more than fifteen years may have only just begun....

Boogeyman.......2006-02-13
I really like this book, even better than the movie, even though they're almost the same. Some parts in the book, like the part where Tim finds his cat in the chimney, where described really well. I was feeling the bugs on me. I was surprised to find that the movie was very much like the book, but a little let down because they had left out some parts. I like the book more also because it allows you to feel, and create on your own so it's extra scary!!!
Boogeyman was good.......2005-04-09
I though the movie novelization of Boogeyman was really good. Some parts of the books were written really well, and the scary parts were described really good. I like how the author described Tim nightmares and his fear of the dark and closests. I hope the move will be as good as the book is.
Readable, Accessible, and a Good Addition to the film.......2005-02-19
It is pretty much a sure thing that if you like the film, then you will enjoy this book, and if you did not like the film, then you will not like this book.
The difference with BOOGEYMAN, compared to, for example, EXORCIST :THE BEGINNING ( the Book ) in relation to the film, is that the BOOGEYMAN works well with a writers view that expands on the story, where-as, EXORCIST THE BEGINNING is somewhat more visceral. Not to say that some will not have a reaction that is visceral when either reading this book, or seeing the film, then reading the book, just that this is a scarey film/book that does not use either the Psychological path in it's exposition, or go down the "Slash-Kill-Slash some more" school of horror.
It is a neat scare, and in my opinion, both the film and the book are fun scares; however, the book and the film are not for the elite snobs who do not seem to recall the fun of a film, and a book where things that go bump in the night can provide a neat scare.
If you can get the book from WAL-MART, you should be able to get it for around 5 dollars.
It's not art, but then what fun, scarey, and popular film and book is these days.
If you go by the formula that a Critics view is generally in inverse proportion to its fun and scarey factor, then you can't lose( Most Box office number 1 or top ten films are generally panned by "highly regarded" critics, and the stuff they love is either totally a snore piece, or it is years old, and the grosses are so overwhelmingly indicative of a loved film which makes it in their best interest to "suddenly discover" what a hidden masterpiece it is).

funny and very entertaining.......1999-11-19
My three-year-old and I loved this book. What made us laugh were the illustrations. The picture of one of the boogeymen scared her but when I pointed out his funny hat and shoes she didn't seem so scared anymore. This is a really fun book and I wish I could find more in the series.
