    Book Description

When construction managers need to talk about the specifics of a construction job – where the electrical outlets need to go, when the framing will be completed, how a plumbing problem will be solved – they need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with workers. That task gets considerably more difficult when managers and workers are speaking in different languages. More than simple dictionary terms or phrases, managers need a tool for understanding the basics of the language their workers use – a resource that lets them communicate the myriad of questions, issues, schedules, and tasks that come up on a construction job. Learning Construction Spanglish is exactly the tool they need. This book offers up: • Communication tools – a method for understanding the basics of Spanglish – not just dictionary terms. • Practical, useful on-the-job terms and phrases. • Logical organization that makes info fast and easy to find. • Both English/Spanish and Spanish/English glossaries.

If you buy or sell silverplate, this is one of the must have reference books. This is a complete history of silverplate in America, with the companies and the lines they produced. Contains many photos taken from catalogs. Figural napkin rings or holders, butter dishes, mechanical jewelry boxes, candlesticks, many different holloware forms and the companies who made them. It is additionally a cultural history that reflects the lifestyle of Americans through their silverplated products. Carefully researched, this is the third edition, an indication that it is a useful book that has remained in print. A chapter on care and restoration. Five stars!

    1 out of 5 stars Outdated & Overpriced.......2005-01-21

Although this book sounded great, it was very disappointing...A very expensive book for the little knowledge in it...Lots of pages, but little information....Has many manufacturer's advertisement pictures and pages and pages of the same pattern, but not very helpful as far as identification!!! Very limited manufacturers and patterns...I wouldn't waste my time or money on purchasing this particular book, even for the novice it covers very little, unless you just like looking at pictures...

    3 out of 5 stars It's pretty okay.......2000-12-15

This book has lots of nice pictures and drawings that show good detail of the different patterns. There are lots of patterns to choose from including some that are very old. The only problem is that it doesn't really have a good variety of brands. Also, it took me a while to figure out where the values are. Once I figured that out, I got real tired of flipping back to the front cover over and over to see what my pieces were worth. However, if you've got the right brands this could be the perfect book for you!

4 out of 5 stars Good basic overall view of American silverplate patterns.......1999-07-04

If you have an old set of silverplate or odd pieces, especially older ornate pieces of flatware, this is a good guide, well illustrated, with many reproductions of original catalogs. I found pattern names of several odd serving pieces which led to a search for matching place settings.

2 out of 5 stars not very complete in identifying patterns.......1999-02-12

A collection of ads and drawings of silverplate patterns. I have 5 different patterns that we collect. This book only had 2 of the five.

5 out of 5 stars a feast for the eyes. very good........1998-09-01

There are so many good photos, line drawings, and catalog pages. It is organized by manufacturers name, and then sub catgorized alphabetically by pattern name. No need for a contents page when you are trying to identify a piece you have.Look up your pattern by what the backstamp says on it.There are all the top collectible patterns in this book and the lesser quality patterns were left out that are of little demand. The orignal catalog pages are very informative and show the original prices for the silver. A must for the dealer, and dealer wanna-be.

5 out of 5 stars What can I say? It was great!.......1999-12-04

If you're a fan of Henson's work you'll absolutely die for this book! It's got great coverage over his past movies to 91. Some include The Dark Crystal, The great muppet Caper, and my personal favorite: THe Labyrinth!

          5 out of 5 stars awsome!!!!!!!.......1999-04-25

This book is great if you want to learn more about the movies that the creature workshop did instead of Jim Henson. Although it does talk alot about him it's more about the workshop he created and left behind. It's a grest book if you love Jim Henson's work and I do !Get it it's great!

          5 out of 5 stars Jim Henson {Fraggle} Rocks!.......1998-03-26

Since skipping school to go and watch 'Labyrinth'. I've been fascinated with animatronics. The creatures produced both during and after Jim Henson have been both imaginative and captivating. 'No Strings Attached' is a wonderful book of mechanical invention, artistry and imagination. Being someone who loves to watch 'The making of..' specials on TV whenever a new special-effects blockbuster comes out, I found this book catered to my 'Wow! How did they do that?' curiosity. I am a great fan of puppetry but I am a biased fan of Jim Henson...if you buy this book, turn to page 112, the girl kneeling on one knee on the bottom right corner is yours truly!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant look into the movie puppeteers work.......1998-01-03

An outstanding piece of work, beyond overdue, but worth the wait. This beautifully presented, comprehensive book covers "Jim Henson's Creature Shop's" work from its very inception, including such Fantasy films as `The Dark Crystal' and `Labyrinth,' right up to their most recent stunningly realistic contributions in `Babe,' `101 Dalmatians,' and `Buddy.' Includes glorious full colour photographs of what happened behind-the-scenes, and plenty of anecdotes from the people who were there explaining the evolution of ideas into finished product.

Any fan of the legendary Jim Henson, of puppeteering, animatronics, or any kind of Special Effects would love - and be enthralled by - the hundreds of never-before-seen photographs of the masters of their craft creating their wonderful characters, and at how the late Jim Henson's influence even now instills the performers and craftspeople with the drive to be nothing less than the best at what they do.
I so dearly wanted to meet Jim one day; this book may be the closest I'll get. Still, I may be fortunate enough to instead meet his son Brian, who has taken over from his father admirably.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It will be an inspiration to all who read it.

The dark city is filled with gloomy alleys and capped by drafty rooftops; its citizens are all clothed in mystery and seem to have business outside the book's plot. The title characters are five nearly identical trench-coated crime fighters scouring their city of evil and searching for their missing partner. The beautifully drawn villains are too numerous to keep up with. From the fez-wearing Cthulhoid gentleman to the zombie crime lord, they usually exit as swiftly as they appear. The story falls just short of living up to its Phil Dick-inspired promise, but it is nevertheless satisfying and well worth a dozen readings. --Rob Lightner

                    Book Description

This never happened. We were never here. Where they come from, no one knows. Where they go when their crime-fighting work is done is a mystery. They are the Nevermen, the greatest heroes who never existed -- in the mission they never expected! One of the Nevermen is missing, taking with him the only clues to a plot that has the criminal underworld in turmoil. With homicidal monkey butlers, disembodied living heads, the diabolical League of Crows, and the mysterious villain known as Clockwork arrayed against them, the remaining Nevermen find themselves seeking the help of one of their former companions now turned free-lance avenger -- The Murderist -- in order to stem the swelling tide of evil that threatens not only the Nevermen`s beloved city, but the very fabric of time and space! This definitive collection of the four-issue series also includes the hard-to-find Nevermen tales from Dark Horse Presents!

5 out of 5 stars Cryptic, Beautiful, Thrilling.......2003-11-07

The above are all too often hinted at in comics, but not let loose in their full, bewildering flower. Nevermen manages to be at once the most cryptic and the most exciting comic I have read in recent memory. Guy Davis captures the nightmarish, stylish underworld that the reader fills in, her mind sparked by his examples. The story is yes, not obvious-- but isn't everyone a little tired of obvious? If it were all spelled out, then where's the fun? Well, if it's too mysterious, then no one cares, but it's a hard-hearted reader that can pick up the Nevermen and not be intrigued. I was also impressed at the writing- so spare it is beyond belief-- I too, like another reviewer, would find myself turning back to see what I had missed- but I loved it! I loved having spaces left in the story for me to wonder and work- I will never complain if I am given enough elements of a story and a compelling vision-- I'm happy to wander in those spaces. Read Nevermen- it will draw you back, like a poem or a painting, where part of the story is part of you.

2 out of 5 stars Has excellent potential........2002-11-18

In a nutshell, the concept is great, the art is perfectly suited to genre, the storyline is okay, but the execution is extremely poor. So even though I am giving this a low rating, I think the story line has great potential and that people who are interested should keep it in mind since the next mini-series is coming out soon.

Now my opinion that the execution was poor comes not from what Amara included but what he didn't. And to be honest that could have been Dark Horse's fault. The burden of closure was left to the reader especially from storyline to storyline. Not that closure isn't the reader's responsibility but it should be a mutual effort. Too many times I would read something and flip back looking for what I had missed only to find I hadn't missed it. A small example, which gives nothing away, is when the murderist faces off against a large robotic opponent. the next time we return to the scene the murderist is on his back and throwing a bomb into it's casing. there's a lot missing there. and that at least has more continuity than many of the more crucial parts of the story. characters appear and disappear during the story in a non-sequitor craziness. the murderist's relationship with match is so patchy that i don't even understand the inclusion let alone conclusion of that sub-plot. This was additionally hurt by the fact that it was originally a DHP short that was eventually given its own mini-series. The DHP's are included but convolute the story and make it hard to follow. They should have been rewritten in the least.

In the long run these characters need a series to explore some depth. A series would provide room for the myriad of characters that convoluted this small story. while intriging, characters such as Manbulian, Match, Sully and about 5 others could have been left out. I felt that each page i read of this needed an aditional two pages to fill in missing parts and poor transitions.

                    Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 stars So Soreal, So Beautiful.......2002-01-13

This book is set in a surreal world, with the 50's movies gone high on Gothic Punk. The heros, in trench-coats and hats, try to keep the peace in streets filled with inhuman villans, who are strangely human, much more so than the heroes themselves, in many ways. The haunting tale goes back and fourth in time, showing fragments that only at the very end combine into a complete picture.
Especially recommended for fans of a slightly bizzar Film Noir.
