This is a great lighting design book, lots of graphical explanations, lots of useful information, a must-buy for any kind of interior designer!

Not Good Introductory Textbook Material .......2005-05-22

This is a required book for an introductory lighting class I'm taking. Since we are solely relying on this book and it isn't supplemented with lecture material, I find that, without familiarity with lighting terminology and concepts, it is very difficult to understand -- very cryptic with the seemingly overused language of the field. While the author may be very knowledgeable, I feel the book is not very well written and the target audience is, perhaps, not intended to be, essentially, the layman. I don't find the organization of ideas and concepts to be clearly laid out or communicated well and, as they unfold, and I come to understand what the author is trying to say, wonder why it was made so difficult -- is that all he means, geesh and why didn't he tell me that earlier. It would be easier to understand the general concept of things first, even in plain English perhaps, and then go on to a more technical description to learn the language of the field and get the details. Just seems to make simple things very complicated, especially with the language, flow of ideas, and phrasing.

I also find a lot of the graphic figures and photo examples need some clarification or more details. A picture's supposed to be worth a thousand words, not be cryptic and time-consuming to understand.

Sorry, I would not recommend this for students who are not primed first. Especially the younger ones.

Great teacher.......2004-03-30

While I was studying Interior Design at Parsons a number of years ago, I had Gary Gordon as a Lighting Design Instructor. He was by far one the best teachers that I had. He is very knowledgeable and has the unique ability to easily communicate the many aspects of both design and lighting. I highly recommend any publication he has authored.

Very good book for novices........1997-07-07

The book begins with an inspirational and somewhat simplistic insight into lighting design. Simply as a study of lighting contrasts. While this is a very important aspect of LD, it is by far one of many concepts a professional must use. The book refers to many technical aspects of lighting without giving any "meat" or more in depth information, which I would have enjoyed. If you are new to LD or are an architect or engineer who has little experience with lighting, it is a very good lauching point. If you are technically knowledgable about lighting and want some inspiration, read chapter 1 and the last chapter on Design for concepts

Great mini-stories for Scouts.......2007-08-05

I was looking for good short stories to end scout meetings, and this book has great ones. The concept of the "Scoutmaster's Minute" is not new to Costa Rica, but finding stories is not an easy task. Well, the search has just become easier.

This book is more like a magazine, most pics presented are two to a page and the quality of them (a publishing/printing issue) leave a lot to be desired.

The pics themselves are not of the pro quality I imagined they would be....and based on the title I figured there'd be some "shoot from the hip" type stuff but it all looks set up (and not very well at that).

Sorry but I'd hate for others like myself to buy this with expectations and wish they'd spent the money on an alternate.

A Superb Compliation from a Gifted Art Photographer.......2005-10-29

This is the first book from American art photographer Nad Iksodas and fans of his will not be disappointed. It's a classic 8.25x11" coffee-table photography book containing 95 gorgeous images of female beauty, compiled from a photographer who has been shooting nudes for many years. But this is more than just a retrospective - it's a bundle of insight into the vision and the thought processes of Nad himself, as it contains written anecdotes and comments composed from his photosessions.

The photographs featured are a mix of color and black & white shots, and most are printed full-page for maximum impact. His ability to transition from the outdoors to the studio and back to some other interior location makes for a rambling ride here. But it's never dull. Nad's vision is all about beauty, and his ability to capture its fleeting treasure is amazing. His work here is sure to inspire.

The very cool 2000 AD loose adaptation of some Irish mythology, and other aspects of Celtic mythology. They take an actual high king of the past, and adjust him slightly and he goes on crazy adventures.

He is a bizarre magical type of berserker with an axe, undergoing fearsome 'warp spasms' in combat, turning him into something a tad on the scary side as he slays away.

Best of the current 2000AD offerings.......2003-08-11

One of the best stories to have come out of long-running British comic 2000 AD is Slaine, the ale-swilling, axe-wielding, trouble-making Celtic hero who wanders the lands of Tir Nan Og having all sorts of adventures. The stories were classics: a rich storyline, great action and some truly outstanding art by Mike McMahon.

This book is Part Two (of Two) of the Horned God series and teams up Pat Mills, the original creator of the Slaine series with the awesomely talented Simon Bisley. There were several earlier printings of The Horned God story and to my knowledge all of them are out of print and have become collector items of value. This latest printing splits the tale into two books, the first part of which is ISBN 1840234776.

In this story, the wandering Slaine has at last returned to his tribe, the Sessair to lead them as king. To defeat their dreaded foes the Drunes and their sea-devil allies the Fomors, Slaine sets out to unite the individual tribes and bring together all four of the great treasures of Tir Nan Og: The sword of the moon which can cut through any metal, the spear of Lugh which thirsts for blood, the cauldron of blood which never empties of food, and the stone of kingship whose test the High King must pass to be accepted by the tribes.

In Part Two of this tale, Slaine has gathered all the treasures but one and sets out to finish the task and confront the age-old enemies of his people, the Drunes. The rich, well-researched story and the humour that was so much a part of the original strips are all retained. Combined with Bisley's incredible full-colour artwork makes this the possibly the best of the 2000 AD offerings currently in print.
