In general this is an informative book of ideas IF you are planning on a very hi-tech / upper-class / expensive restaurant. Definately not for the small business entrepreneur wishing to gather ideas for a small intimate casual gathering place.

Stunning architecture & interior designs.......2005-11-13

This book is quite useful if you work in architecture/interior design or wanted to opened a restaurant. It brings you lots and lots of other cafe & restaurants architectural & interior designs which is absolutely stunning. Each photograph is amazing and makes you really wanted to visit those restaurant/cafe.

I actually hoping for more details from each cafe & restaurants in this book, because for each cafe/restaurants review they only provide about 3-5 images. It also provide a small information about each cafe & restaurants, and sometimes a small blueprint of the building's architecture.

Overall, it's a great book with not much information in it. Because just like what the title is, it contains 'cafe & reataurant design' ONLY.

I was going to give 1 star until I realized..........2004-06-30

...that the error was mine. I ordered this along with a whole host of other books on the restaurant business. I didn't realize that it was a book of pictures. I thought it was that and some kind of description about what we were looking at. It's not. Only pictures.

I dropped it to 3 stars though because (while certainly interesting cases) most every business featured is an ultra-modern style. That, plus there are absolutely no case-by-case descriptions of what it is the authors found attractive or important about the designs.

good idea book.......2004-06-06

This book has lots of great pictures of various cafes and restaurants, hence the title. I bought it for ideas for my work and I loved flipping through the book when my brain needs some new ideas. If you are looking for how the architects came up w/ the solution or what kind of materials they use, you may not want this book. If all you are looking for is pictures, this is the book for you.

If your idea of a cafe or bistro is a coffee kiosk or food court in a mall then this book is for you. If these words conjure up other images then pass this one by.

Didn't meet expectations.......2002-08-03

Sure some of the pictures were nice, and some of the designs were inspiring. But a few of the pictures were fuzzy, and some of the featured locales just didn't seem to fit with the title. For instance a sports bar? or bar/kiosk at a stadium? And heck, some of the cafe's were nearly ugly. I guess I was just expecting more...

Not a day goes by that I don't look at this book on my bookshelf and get inspired on the next design of one of our restaurants. Great photography, great resource directory. A must if you own or or going to be in the business.

An enticing armchair tour.......2003-10-16

Readers whose idea of a French café is (like mine was) little more than the cliché of black coffee and Le Monde at little round sidewalk tables will be very pleasantly surprised by variety revealed in this neat little book by Marie-France Boyer and photographer Eric Morin. From Paris haunts much like the stereotype, to rustic village cafes far outside the metropolis, to the retreats of artists or tradesmen, author and photographer demonstrate that the café is more than a place, but rather an intimate expression of the French lifestyle.

The beautiful photos are by far the most engrossing part of this book. But the writing is valuable too, describing the golden age of French cafes, the rise of important establishments like Momus, Les Deux Garçons in Aix-en-Provence, or the Marly, and the influence of the cafes on French art and culture. And though the book's almost a decade old now, the Guide at the end should still be useful in tracking down many of the cafes featured in photo and text.

In all, whether you're an experienced boulevardier, a traveler with fond memories, or just someone looking to experience French culture vicariously, "The French Café" should inspire many happy thoughts.

You can plan a trip accross France with this book as your only guide. Walking from "bistro" to café from Nice to Paris, Loire-valley to Nantes and Mont-Saint-Michel. Most of the places mentioned here are typically french. No stranger ever thought of pushing the doors. Eric Morin, photographer, knows well this subject. He lives in the Bastille district of Paris. He knows well the most hidden and most fashionable places. Because he spent some happy week-ends in Château du Verger in Anjou (close to Nantes), he collected great pictures from La Cigale and Trentemoult fishing harbour of Nantes. Did you ever dream of becoming a café tender in rural France? would you like to become the "manager" of a warm café where french workers will start the day drinking a Muscadet at 7 am? Marie-France Boyer, as usual, gives practical advices together with inspiring pictures. She will tell you how and where to buy cafés in France, what are "listed historic monuments" in France (some cafés are). A lot of cafés names and addresses are given at the end of this joyful and useful guide to real France. I've always been interested in paleontology and fossils, and in my wildest dreams I never hoped for a book as wonderful as this one. Barbara Page has created three-dimensional panels that track the evolution of life on earth, and this book reproduces them so superbly that the two-dimensional surfaces of the pages almost become three dimensional. Fossil ammonites and trilobites, fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals emerge from the panels to illustrate the history of life in an entirely new way. Here a fragment of a wing, there a piece of dinosaur jaw, just as the fossils emerge from rock. The full color printing is gorgeous, and the text is terrific--not overwhelming but supporting the marvelous art. If you know of any amateur of professional fossil fan, this is THE gift book of the year! It cannot disappoint. Wow!

The worst book on the subject ever!.......2007-07-31

This book is without a doubt one of the LEAST helpful books I have seen. It goes back immediately! Not only is the photography uninspiring, but the information contained is all but worthless ("there's a long tradition in the use of food.." "this playfully quizzical look suggests a good working relationship between model and photographer..." ) Far from being instructive, it reads more like stream-of-consciousness photo-babble from cover to cover. RUN - don't walk - away from this one!

Beautifully presented.......2007-02-03

I found that the book was very well presented. Only a small portion of it deals with taking pictures. The rest deals a lot with how to deal with all the other aspects of nude photography. I found this as an invaluable resource not just for nude photography but for all photography involving models. I especially enjoyed the sort of conversational approach he takes in his writing style.

Overall I highly recommend this book, the only downside were the frightened looks of people who saw me watching it.

Mastering Digital Nude Photography.......2006-08-01

If you are seriously interested in taking photographs of beautiful naked models, then this is the kind of book you won't be able to put down. It's rammed full of insightful little tips and tricks and amusing anecdotes. Explaining everything in a coherent and concise manner, from how to approach potential models, right through to tweaking and correcting the final print, without ever becoming patronizing or overly techie.

An exceptionally good read, a very useful reference book and a fine collection of pictures too. I'm sure I'll be returning to this fantastic book, time and time again.

I have all 3 of Rod's books. The first 2 were all about the information and were rather impersonal in his approach in showing you. This book rather has a very personal touch to it. Its like he is sitting with you explaining everything one on one. It is chuck full of information and a lifetime of experience. All you have to do is read and learn from it.

I thought that the book will examine the techniques in deep detail, hence the "Mastering" in the title, but I was wrong.
The book is poor edited and has very vague information. Maybe it should take out the "Mastering" from the title and put a "Amateur".

This is a great book! It's worth the money! If you know Gundam like I do then you'll love this book. It has pictures from the Endless Waltz as well as some from the earlier movies. The pictures are very colorful and quite creative. Each character is given a few pages of pictures. If you are familiar with the pics on the trading cards, they're there too! Also the covers of the movies are included. I highly reccomend this book to anyone seeking help on drawing the Gundam Wing characters or just looking for a peice to add to their collection!

Hm... I happen to LOVE this book. I own it. Bought it at a different website (animenation.com) with a different cover, but it's the same pictures... And the pictures are great! There were quite a few I hadn't seen before (example 1: the one of Treize and Une's head from the side. example 2: one with both Milliardo and Zechs (Milliardo with his mask on) from the side and a full shot of Noin from the front). The whole thing is layed out very nicely. I give it... *drumroll* Ten out of ten thumbs up! Eh... Right. Anyway...

For all those die-hard Gundam fans who were disappointed with the three-volume manga, this will more than make up for it.

Like the title says, this book displays a collection of pictures -- original ones or screenshots from the anime -- that is, simply, the art of "Gundam Wing." The book does a good job of fairly balancing the pictures of the five pilots as well as other important characters. For those who surf the web a great deal, many of these pictures will be recognized immediately. And many people might also notice that the pictures are a lot crisper, clearer, and cleaner than some found on fansites, which is alone worth the price of the book.

However, there is also a good deal of pictures that have most likely not been found on the internet (although they probably will be soon because of people with scanners and a lot of free time). These pictures heighten the worth of the book, and the fact that they were drawn by the artists who worked on the anime makes it all the more satisfying. After all, where do the original artists take the time to add more of their talent to a collection of already-beautiful artwork?

For all those die-hard Gundam fans who were disappointed with the three-volume manga, this will more than make up for it.

All in all, there was only once complaint I had, and that was that the book was a little short. The book is only about 96 pages of art, with a brief interview with the artists. Despite this setback, the book is definately a must-have for anyone who's ever enjoyed the artwork and wants to gloss over it for days on end. Try and say something like that about "Pokemon"!

For new fans of gundam.......2005-10-18

This book really isn't for anyone who's been a fan of the series for a long time. They discuss basic elements of the series and don't reveal any mysteries or secrets to the longtime fans of gundam. However, i do suggest this book for the newbies of gundam as it gives a very straight to the point appraoch and is extremely easy to read. The only real dissappointment in this book is it's misleading title. It should rather be an introduction to the series rather than a "mysteries and secrets revealed!"

Bios of character w/photos - Yep. They're there. One photo's wrong but who cares? That's the artists fault. ;)

History & Info on Gundam. Yep, that's here. There's a very cool Timeline with great information about all the Gundam series. Colin Liu wrote a really cool story about "20 Years of Gundam". It's over 30 pages long, and tells you about all the Gundam Storylines.

Gundam Wing Episode Guide - Got it.

Modeling?? - CT Chin has a nice piece on Gundam Modeling with images of models. This is like 15 pages.

And there's a lot of other stuff in this book too. The 3D is kind of cheesy, but the rest of the book is fun.

Not for the G Wing newbie! Unless you just want the pics.......2002-08-11

I bought it mostly for the pics, even though Sally Po really is listed as being Noin in 1 pic with a real Noin pic on the next page. They have lots of typos, incorrect spelling of names & relationships. I think Dorothy is a distant cousin of some sort to Treize & if Dermail was Treize's brother well Dermail's parents must have been very fertile geriatrics to have a son old enough to be Dorothy's grandfather & also be the parents of a 20 to 23 year old man [I forget if Treize was 20, 21 or 23 in the series, but even the older characters were usually in their late teens]. I found Wufei's bio to be very incorrect & the other pilots data wasn't always correct either. If you want accurate Gundam Wing info buy something else or surf fan sites, the fan sites are usually obsessively correct if at all possible. It's a very good thing that they labelled this as an Unofficial GW book, because if this was an official book they could probably be repremanded for falsehoods or something. If you don't expect to much get it, otherwise save your money & get something else on GW instead, the GW: Tech Manual isn't too bad although that has a few goofs too, doesn't anyone know how to correctly spell Tsubarov's name for heaven's sake?!?!

Please dont think for a second that you might want this book! Its information is tottally wrong! Names are [messed] up, family relations dont even make sense,the episode guide was 44% wrong, very biast and inncorrect character reveiws. Dont belive the other reviews on this page saying [stuff] like ''I know every character like someone in my family!'' or the really funny one ''this book was really helpfull.'' If you wanna learn something correct and really cool go to some fan sites .... Then you'll find some helpfull info.

Easily put, this book IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING!!! All the information is wrong, and they even mistaken Noir's picture with Sally! Umm....EXCUSE ME?!?! Isn't there enough different between the two to realize they're two different people? Everything about this book is ENTIRELY made up!!! The people who wrote this book either never watched the anime or just decided to pick an anime off the top of their heads and start lying about it...Other than that, DO NOT, AND I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!

The only reason I got this book is for the many pictures. Most of the information is incorrect as a 12 year old reader from Millbury, OH said. When it says "Unofficial", they really mean "We made this up". The only nice stuff about this book is the pictures from Universal Century and the modeling section written by C.T. (Core) Chin of www.newtype-asylum.com. Definatly a site to check out. Anyways, I am gonna wrap this up with: If your new to Gundam Wing and looking for some great information, DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. But if your looking for some nice pictures from UC then I would pick this book up...
