Great Value.......2006-03-16
I enjoyed this book because it was not full of fluff or the hit and miss content of similar books - the architecture was compelling, the theme was consistant - I really enjoy this one! In fact I am sending it to several of my friends.
Nice book - could have been better.......2006-02-22
This is a nice book in general. It has a good format, showcases interesting projects and unlike the first book of the "100 Best" series, devotes more pages to each project with more photographs and plans. Some of the photography however is disappointing. Even though most of the projects are professionally shot, some of the houses are represented by snapshots with distorted walls and incorrect color balance, and in my opinion do not belong in a book of this caliber.
Book Description
A highly anticipated second volume in this new series. Lavishly illustrated with plans and photography.

wow.......2006-06-27
This is a great book for resedential design. This book surpass its predecessor. This book is must buy.
The title could've been better..........2005-02-02
This book is great for someone who is curious about the different styles of houses throughout world, regardless of one particular style (ie. modern, minimal, etc.) The pictures are very well scaled and the project desciption featured in the index is informative although they are missing the essential date of completion. The title of the book is subjective so it is up to the reader to determine if these really are the "best" houses in the world, but they do give a introduction to the different style of residential designs realized throughout the world.

Another 100 of the World's Best Houses.......2004-05-04
Not just another object for the coffee table, this book takes architecture seriously. The descriptions are clear and concise and the photographs illustrate each home in fine detail. For anyone who enjoys learning about great contemporary residential architecture, this is a very fine book.

great book.......2005-10-08
This book gives a complete perception of the houses described, because of plans and multiple views inside the houses. That is what I expected from a book like that: not only a compilation of pictures
from an architect.......2005-03-23
I have seen almost every house in this book published before and the ones that i hadn't seen weren't anything special. In fact several of the homes are quite old by Moore Ruble, Predock, Gwathmy, etc. If you have a collection of residential books allready, pass this one over.
LESS QUANTITY AND MORE CONTENT NEEDED.......2004-03-26
Although this book has more than a handful of great contemporary homes, we get only a teasing glimpse of each of them. The author would have been better off reducing the number of houses covered, and doing a more in depth coverage of each of them. The book could have been improved by calling it, 25 or 50 of the worlds best houses, and doing a more comprehesive spread on each house. The few pictures we get of each house are of good photographic quality, but the scene selections and angles the houses are shot at, don't give the best representation of them. I have seen several of these same houses in other publications (books or magazines) and have seen them shot from better angles. Another complaint, but this one is subjective, is that, for me, there were too many "woodsy" houses in the book.
I realize that this is only my opinion and taste, but for me, I like my contemporary homes very minimal and sleek, and with a touch of industial in the mix, with no sign of wood. There are a few like that in the book, but the majority of them are mostly wood based.
I did purchase and keep this book, feeling it had enough fresh ideas to merit keeping it. Again everything is relative, and compared to most other contemporary architecture books, this ones a keeper.
Subjective book.......2004-01-02
This coffee-table book is massive in size. I wouldn't say that it's a cerebral book which offers much in architecture literature. The introduction is rather superficial which defines the meaning of private dwellings by Catherine Slessor, the managing editor of The Architectural Review. Her comment is simply most of the featured dwellings here are commissioned by affluent clients & they do have an impact upon the landscape, fulfillment of their lifestyle circumstances, enabling them to express themselves as much as the architects who design those dwellings. The book cut into the chase immediately with illustrations of 100 houses which span around the world. I'm pleasantly surprised that some houses in New Zealand are featured too. There are many types of houses ranging from International House to Deconstructivism to Post Expressionism to Minimalism to Intelligent House (regulating the temperature in the house by using passive means to conserve energy) & the list goes on. Should readers would like to read more about those houses, there are briefs provided at the end of the book. It would be good if there are headings given in the book but obviously, it's not done in this instance. It would be ideal if contact information for architects are provided in this book as some architecture books would have done. There are enough pictures to keep us interested and ocassionally building plans. It would be interesting if editor shares with us how she picks those houses that are featured in this book because I would like to think that preferences are rather subjective. Therefore, for what she thinks is the best 100 houses in the world, other people might not necessarily think so. Perhaps, the choice of the title of the book is questionable. Anyhow, this book does provide us with a broad view of available houses in the world. I wouldn't say that this is a definitive architecture book or a book that you should have in your collection. However, as a reference material, it shall made do. A book with enormous potential but ultimately, disappointing. By the way, many of the houses here come from the States. Is it because other places in the world are devoid of creativity or that Americans do put a lot of effort into their homes?
Great survey of contemporary home design.......2003-10-26
This book provides a nice selection of contemporary home design, and not just the unatainable homes often depicted in such volumes. Floor plans are included, and the photography and quality of reproduction is first-rate. Highly recommended.

A splendid, full-color gallery Rafal Olbinski's artworks.......2005-03-10
Olbinski: Posters For Performing Arts is a splendid, full-color gallery Rafal Olbinski's artworks, originally created from to draw attention to performing arts, from bullfighting to jazz to circus performances and more. The allegorial images, some of which play upon classic artworks or themes, and span the latter third of the twentieth century to the modern day. A brief introduction offers a few pages of insight into Olbinski, but the rest of Olbinski: Posters For Performing Arts is entirely given over to the brilliant works themselves. Highly recommended for library and personal artbook collections.

Excellent for Quick Reference.......2006-05-16
I bought this book to use as a studio reference because it has easy to find sections and samples of "good" and "bad" angles. This book isn't meant to be an in-depth review of posing, but a quick and easy to understand guide.
Useful features include sections on the various "problem" body parts, quick overviews of posing styles (traditional, casual, glamourous), and corrective posing for weight and glasses.
If you are looking for an in-depth discussion of studio posing this book is not it -- but if you want a book for quickly referencing how to pose arms, legs, or the body, this book will be a good reference and starting point for posing your subjects.
Not enough detail for the beginner.......2005-11-25
This book is filled with lots of information and example pictures. It tells you that this photo is good and that photo is not so good, but it doesn't go far enough towards explaining the details to a beginner. I was looking for a beginner's book that would first explain what the traditional poses are before discussing the newer more untraditional poses. For instance, the author refers to a traditional 'feminine' or 'masculine' pose, but doesn't offer enough information to understand what those really are. He also say that traditional poses are not as important today as they once were. He says that women don't want to look feminine anymore and men don't want to look masculine. I wonder.
This book would be more help someone who already had some experience with posing techniques, but not as much use to a complete beginner.
Also, the title indicates that this book is somehow specific to 'digital' posing techniques, but I found no discussion of any of the differences between film and digital. In fact, the word 'digital' was only used once in the whole book, and that was in the introduction. Film was never mentioned. I'm fairly sure that there are no differences with posing between digital or film, other than the quicker feedback of digital.

More than meets the eye.......2006-11-03
I really don't enjoy weddings that much; and wedding photos are pretty low on my list of things to look at. However, a friend wanted me to take photos at his wedding so I read this book. Sensibly I declined taking photos at his wedding and he got a professional. (Just because I have a nice camera does not mean I take nice photos!) The book explains how to position the couple for staged photos and interesting things to do with the lighting. I especially enjoyed the sections in the back of the book that was kind of a "cook book" of how to set the gang up for different photos. The author also discussed the artistic photos of the bride; some work and some don't in capturing the "character" of the bride using lighting and composition. This book is also enjoyable to look at. After reading the explanations of how the shots were created I doubt that I will look at good wedding photos without an appreciation of what the photographer did to make them happen. It's another good photography book that should give the average person a jump start into taking better than average photos at a wedding. (Bonus points if your wife catches you reading it!)
Outdated, but only printed last year!.......2006-05-27
I am new to Wedding photography and picked up this book at my local library. First off if you are a "photojournalist" do not bother investing your money in this book. This book focuses more on chessy formal shots, that look like they are from the 1980's. What is more suprising was when I found out this book was made only last year. It's severely outdated style wise and not for the modern photographer.
The only thing I took from this book was the contract and business information. At least that was something that can not go out of date.
Best yet!.......2006-05-20
I have read so many books about wedding photography by now but this one is the best yet! It is well explained, very easy to understand. It covers everything thats important to know, shows great images to go along with the text and gives you great ideas! I encourage you to read this!
Great Wedding Photography Guide.......2006-05-05
I have been a photographer most of my life, and a wedding photographer for four years now. When I purchased this book, I expected to see good examples of things to shoot at weddings, receptions, etc. To my surprise, I found that Mr. Ferro walks the reader through every aspect of wedding photography in a way that makes you feel as if he's sitting and talking with you face-to-face. For anyone serious about wedding photography as a business, this book needs to be in your library!
The Wedding Photographer's Bible.......2006-02-18
Rick Ferro's latest is an update of his original text of the same title. It is easily the most comprehensive guide for any wedding photographer.
Rick's wedding images are wonderful and a great source for posing and lighting ideas. This book should be in all wedding photographer's personal collections.

TAPE ERASURE AND PICKING A GIRL.......2006-01-09
Nobuko has decided it's time to raise their relationship to the next level. Even though the two lovebirds have never kissed, she wants to spend the night with Yota at his house. But at the most inopportune time, he gets a call from Ai and has to go to her emotional rescue. Ai, while still suffering from amnesia, is drawn inexplicably to Yota but she doesn't want to hurt Nobuko. And besides that, she has bigger problems when her creator arrives on Earth, his mission to erase Ai! Yota is at a loss since he still cares for Ai but feels he had to move on because of her lost memory. Even the girl that started all this mess, Moemi, is wanting more than just friendship from our once "Dateless" hero.
This manga has evolved from a once comedic formula of boy meets tomboyish fantasy girl to a romance in the space of the last two volumes. It's hard to sympathize with Yota at times because of his embarrassment of riches. It seems like all the girls want him now but he's having a hard time doing what has to be done. Mainly, picking one! Katsura did a better job in this fourth volume of making Yota's decisions based on his unwillingness to hurt anyone instead of portraying him as a sort of caddish gigolo in the last volume. But most of the time, a failure to express your feelings in a relationship leads to trouble. If only Yota could learn this lesson. This is turning into a fine series.
okay..........2003-06-09
I wasn't sure whether to give this a 3 or a 4, but I gave it a 4 because it really was interesting enough that I got through it quickly (if something takes me a while to read, it's either very long or not very interesting). Yota is still dealing with relationship problems, only now his problems don't involve the word "dateless". In fact, he's got way too many women in his life. There's Moemi, Nobuko, and Ai. Yota's dating Nobuko, but he still loves Ai, and he's still got feelings for Moemi. It makes his life pretty complicated. The reason I was wondering if I should give it a 3 was because I'm getting to the point in this series where I think every one of these characters just needs a break from each other - or maybe just from Yota. It's hard to believe that he could go from being the guy with the nickname "Dateless" to the guy that every girl wants to have. This book still was a pretty good read, but I don't think I'm going to be continuing with this series anytime soon.
A new rival in love appears, plus Moemi suddenly returns.......2002-04-12
Video Girl Ai Vol. 4: Off-Line continues Katsura's romantical triangle/square/pentagon saga with a hint of cyber sci-fi and a thoughtful, serious undertone concerning the fragility of human hearts and emotions. Certain mature themes about human sexuality briefly appear in this graphic novel, which is intended for a wide age range but not for very young children. The formerly "Dateless" protagonist Yota has met a flesh-and-blood young woman who is very interested in him - yet Ai Amano is still around, attending his school, with nearly all her memories of being a "video girl" seemingly erased. The unknowing Ai may have only another month of life left to her, but Yota's human girlfriend doesn't know that! A new rival in love appears, plus Moemi suddenly returns... but neither of these two are as dangerous as Ai's creator, who is most displeased about the "flaws" appearing in his work! Those followers of Katsura's humanistic saga who have watched the animated adaptation of Video Girl Ai should not pass up Video Girl Ai Vol. 4: Off-Line, because the original manga takes the story into a much different and deeper direction than the anime, which roughly corresponds to volumes 1-3 only. Video Girl Ai is enthusiastically recommended.
Breathtaking..........2002-03-01
Video Girl Ai is by far the most tender love story I've read ... even outside of anime! The characters are so true to life and the story is excellent! I've read manga over and over, and each time it seems more poignant. I also own the DVD and I can never seem to get enough of that, either. I really can identify with Yota's pain. I would highly recommend this manga, especially if you are "dateless" and pure of heart.
